Another Random Blogging

Di Preshha Start!

I have been away from the blogging for a couple of days now for two reasons, that I will now divulge. As with any semester, the pressure has begun. As I told you before in one of my post, I have a Seminar assignment to prepare. I didn't choose Blogging, the topic had to be something related to my field of engineering. So I decided to do my research, book and presentation on digital cameras. I have completed two chapters of the book thus far and I want to complete it as soon as possible so I can't start on the presentation. But, it nuh done deh suh! I have mid-semester exams starting next week an mi nuh study yet! Economics, is the one I'm worrying about, so much material to cover! AHHH!!!

Outa Town

I went to Manchester and St. Elizabeth this weekend. My grandfather passed on, and the funeral was yesterday. It was a whole lot of driving though. First I had to drive from Kingston to a district called Maidstone, way up in the hills of Manchester. My mother is from that area and her sister also lives there and my aunts, grandmother, sister and other family members were staying up there. Then it was down to St Elizabeth, where the funeral service was being held. Another long drive down Spur Tree and then to a little district a long way off the main road. Just at the end of the funeral the rain decided to start falling, and fall it did! Some serious piece a rain. This made the drive back to the city a tiring one, as visibility was low, especially when driving through Manchester. Yes, there was fog all along the road, while driving through Manchester. Thankfully is was not too thick. I reached home at about 9:15pm, had a bath, caught a couple minutes sleep and then off to work by 11:40pm. I took a few pictures of the scenery, I'll share them with you during the course of the week.

It Cowl Nuh B..ch!

The weatherman was certainly right this time, he did not miss. The island is once again under the influences of a cold front...no cowl front! Today and up till now, especially now is damn cold. And as if the temperature isn't cold enough, it is also windy. Yes moderate gusts of cooold breeze. But, I don't mind it at all, inside is just right...as long as I don't have to go outside tonight. Anyway, mi gone wrap-up unda mi sheet.

I was reading my favorite section in the Outlook magazine (cyaan buy di Sunday Gleaner an nuh read it) which is a part of the Sunday Gleaner, Doctor's Advice. An as usual I found a funny article so I decided to share it with you. No the picture wasn't in the gleaner, I just added it for the effect!

Fooled by films

"Doc, I am a guy of 24, and I would like to know if you think I am going to lose my nature I am fretting about my sex life, doc - because it seems to me like it is diminishing. What I mean is this. . I have been watching some of them 'blue movies,' and as a result I am sure I am inadequate, doc. The guys in these films seem like they are much more 'virile' than me. What is making me feel real bad is that now that I have watched them, I know that I am not producing enough sex fluid. So there must be something wrong with me. I only produce a tiny spoonful, and I think it has got less in the past few years. These guys in the videos make me look pathetic, doc. They produce pints or maybe gallons of fluid. I feel that they are real men, and that I am useless in comparison. I think that when I was 16 or 18, I produced more than I do now. So I fear that the volume will soon 'fade away' to nothing. Girls will not want me, and I think I will lose my nature completely. So please help me, doc. Prescribe a good tonic or something for me, but please, please help me!"

Bob Marley - True Jam-Icon

Today, many Jamaicans remembered one of Jamaica's most popular and influential icons Robert Nesta Marley OM, more popularly known as Bob Marley. Every radio station played his songs today continuously, only to break for news and advertisements, yes the Jamaican radio wave echoed the chanting of Bob.

Bob was born on February 6, 1945 in Nine Miles St. Ann. However he was raised in the capital city of Kingston in the poverty stricken, inner city community called Trenchtown. This is where it is said that the seeds were sown for what would later become a Jamaican icon.

Bob Marley is known the world over for the enchanting and rhythmic music he sang, called reggae. Reggae music is synonymous with Jamaica and Bob Marley. I doubt there is anywhere in the world that you can go and not find someone who knows of Bob Marley and the famous Reggae music.

The popularity of Jamaica and Jamaicans was no doubt as a result of this legendary ambassador of Jamaica. Bob Marley thrilled the souls of many and kept them rocking to a mixture of cultural, revolution and love lyrics encompassed by the songs that he and his group The Wailers berried deep in the hearts of Jamaicans and the many people around the globe.

Bob Marley and the Wailers recorded several songs such as the very popular One Love, which is used to advertise Jamaica as a tourist destination, Buffalo Soldier, Crazy Ballhead and the song famous for Weed (Marijuana) smoking Natural Mystic, just to name a few. Bob succumbed to his battle with cancer on May 11, 1981. However, The King of Reggae's influence can still be felt in Jamaica and the world through his music, the Rastafarianism culture that he made popular, the music of his children Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers and the burning lyrics of Jr. Gong!

Kerosene Lamp

The Kerosene Lamp, a taste of the early days in the country.
Since you liked the last drawing I posted, I decided to share another one of my drawings...and also because I don't really have much to say today. This one is titled Kerosene Lamp. I did this drawing a long time ago, if you look closely you will see that it's dated August 2001.

This takes me back to my younger days, when I was just a likkle pickney. You see, at that time there was no electricity in my community, so the kerosene lamp was our only source of light at nights. Even after we received electricity in our community the old faithful kerosene lamp was not abandoned. There were frequent power-cuts and the kerosene lamp had to be lit as a backup light source for those times. My mother still has that Kerosene lamp back at my home in Portland, but it has now been retired, as she has a backup re-chargeable electric lamp in the event of a power-cut.
