Bottle Har Ross!!!

Ok, I can't help it! I was going to keep quiet as some of you blogged about it, but mi haffi get it out!

I didn't go and spend my US$75 (JM$5300) to go to the 2008 Air Jamaican Jazz and Blues Festival, but I feel it for the patrons who paid this overpriced fee only to be disrespected by Diana Ross! According to The Gleaner's article, the so-called Diva insisted that all the big screen TV's, that were strategically placed around the venue for the benefit of the paying non-VIP patrons to enjoy the performance, be turned off during her performance!

Hold on, what kind a idiot ting that! The big screen TV's are there for the paying patrons to see the person entertaining them. And from what I know of the venue, it would be basically impossible to see the performer on stage if you were not sitting in or close to the prestigious VIP area. Cocky Diana Ross you are working for the patrons and thus should give them the performance that they payed for and not behave like a spoiled brat.

Diana Ross seems to have become so absorbed in her own ego and displayed her spoil diva behavior at the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival. As explained by the promoter, Walter Elmore, she would not go on the stage if any cameras were present and this is after she was paid a whopping US$300,000 (JM$21 Million) to perform! I think Diana Ross has her head up her ass unless she has some good reason, like her plastic face, or other unnatural body parts are falling apart. But I think that her behaviour shows an utter lack of respect and consideration for her adoring fans. But I guess those once adoring fans are no longer adoring her based on some of the comments they made when they were interviewed.

I think the patrons at the Jazz and Blues Festival should have given her a true Jamaican stage show display of dissatisfaction and bottle har Ross!

Condoms In School

The issue of distributing condoms in schools as a means to promote safe sex and to curb the growing epidemic of STD's in the country has been a center of controversy for some time now and it once again resurfaced. Many argue that quite a large number of high school students are partaking in unsafe sexual practices, thus putting themselves at risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. There are two main sides to this difficult puzzle, those who are for condoms in schools and those who are against issuing condoms to these minors.

Some from the pro condoms conclude that preaching abstinence to teens with raging hormones who are bombarded with sex from almost every angle is futile or is just not enough. So if these minors are going to have sex anyway, why not give them the means to protect themselves and so it safely. I must agree that the do have a point to some extent. Teens and children alike are surrounded these days with sex and sexual overtones constantly from readily available sources: music, 'blue movies' (pornographic films), printed material, their peers and adults alike, television shows and even commercials, and the list continues. Not all children have "model parent" who will guide them in the right direction and even that is not full proof. Hence, simply encouraging them to abstain from sex does little to stop these children from engaging in risky sexual behaviors and I still haven't seen a store that sells chastity belts. Therefore, teaching these children about safe sex and providing them with the tool, the condom, to protect themselves seems like a very good way to retard the spread of STD's among these school teens.

But I also agree with the stance taken by those who are against handing out condoms in school. Why? Well they argue that giving condoms to these teens in school, these minors, is tantamount to giving them a license to engage in illicit sex. And if you think about it, they have a point as it could be viewed by these minors, that by giving them condoms, we condone their sexual activities and have accepted that they can do as they feel.

Minors should not be having sex, but they are and they are doing it recklessly at times. The issue of whether or not we should distribute condoms to minors in our nation's schools is a very sensitive issue. Also, it may not be the answer to this ever growing problem of minors having sex and the side effects of teenage pregnancy and STD's. This problem is bigger than the schools can handle, it needs the wider community, religion, parents, government, our entire society. Maybe we need to go back to the drawing board: remove the sexual stimulants in our entertainment and advertisements, instill good moral values in our children by being better parents, talk with our children about sex, closely monitor our children, implement stronger penalties for adults who take advantage of the youths, and of course teach them about safe sex.

What are your thoughts on this issue? Do you agree with distributing condoms in schools or are you against it? What do you think is the solution?

Before You Fill Up at the Pump...

With oil prices hitting US$100 per barrel and the tsunami effect it has been having on gas prices at the pump, I think this bit of info I got in my email might be helpful.

1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature is
still cool. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks
buried below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline.
When it gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in the
afternoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of the fuel (gasoline, diesel, jet
fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products) are significant. Every
truckload that we load is temperature-compensated so that the indicated
gallonage is actually the amount pumped. A one-degree rise in
temperature is a big deal for businesses, but service stations don't
have temperature compensation at their pumps.

2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time you want
to buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank is
being stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might be
transferring that dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car's
tank.

3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because the
more gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasoline
evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm. (Gasoline storage tanks
have an internal floating 'roof' membrane to act as a barrier between
the gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizing evaporation.)

4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery
settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze
the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at
the slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are
pumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a
return path for vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is being
sucked back into the underground tank, so you're getting less gas for
your money. Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'

Pull It Up - Bombastic!

It's Friday again! Yeeahhh! Another weekend and I have one day off, so I guess it won't be that bad. I don't know what I am going to do yet, but I'll think of something. Well, since it is a Friday, the beginning of the weekend, what better way to start the weekend with a blast from the past. This used to be my favorite song back in the day when I was in high school! Ladies you can call me...

Enjoy your weekend!

Gym Packed!

The festive Christmas Holidays are over and everyone seems to have had their fill of all the delicacies associated with the season. A new Year has dawned upon us and New Year's Resolution have started of with a bang... well at least one New Year's Resolution is in full effect! I know you are wondering what the hell mad bwoy Stunner getting at? It is the get back in shape after the over stuffing of the holiday effect!

Let me back track to December and even as far back as November, I remember when I went to the gym there was always a decent amount of people at the gym. I admit, the gym I go to has a decent size crowd during the weekdays but not too much. But since Monday of this month that number has grown to a large multitude! I went into the Gym on Monday of last week and had to wonder if the Gym was giving out free membership, because only when freeness a give weh, suh much Jamaican congregate! The air conditioning units struggled and bawled as they tried to keep a stable tolerable temperature due to the head generated by desperate, sweaty people trying to work of their holiday fat!

It is not just because people want to get back that pre-holiday figure that has got these people in a desperate frenzy to work up a sweat! It is now carnival season here in Jamaica, so people want more than the pre-holiday body, they want the hot, tempting, eye-popping carnival body to parade in those skimpy outfits as the gyrate in the hot sun!

In a few months the gym population will soon die down to it's normal level as people sink back into their normal regimes and the fitness hype will have faded. But until then it will be all room full, all full! If only people would have that same zeal to be fit and in shape all year around!

Recap and Eye Candy on the Side

Another weekend is here again! Is it just me or do the weekends seem to come quicker these days? I have been so busy this week between working regular 8-5 and working out at the gym for hours in the gym. By the time I reach home I can only manage to shower and grab a bite and it's straight to bed. Well it has been quite a week here in Jamaica. Here is the recap:

The Jamaican Urban Transit Company (JUTC) withdrew it's services on Monday morning as the staged a protest to vent their frustration of their management! According to the report, the company has been deducting payments from the workers salary but has not been paying over the deductions to the financial institutions including the National Housing Trust (NHT). This has added fuel to the the fire as the workers are already upset about their salaries and now they have financial institutions breathing down their necks for money that was supposed to have already been paid over. [Read Article] I know that I would not be pleased myself... that's to mild, I would be cross nuh 10 Bounty Killer!

The government announced that it will taking steps to regularize the many alternative investment schemes currently operating all across the island including the well known Cash Plus. It has been reported that the Financial Services Commission (FSC) has been receiving a flood of calls from several schemes asking about getting their organization registered. [Read Article] So all the Cash Plus investors are keeping their fingers crossed on this one!

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) delivered its new years present in fine style yesterday evening with an island wide blackout starting at approximately six fifteen. [Read Article]I escaped the total mayhem on the roads as I still managed to get my workout as the gym has a backup generator. I was totally surprised to find power at my house after my workout, even though the road home was only lit by the headlamps of the cars. But is was a good thing cause I man did hungry like dawg and in need of a good warm shower!

Those were the main stories for the week, pretty eventful start to the year. But today the weekend begins, a time to relax, hangout with friends, party, shake your groove thing and of course work! Oh yeah, I have work the entire weekend, but I won't complain as I had all of last weekend off, so it's not that bad. And here is a little present to start of the weekend on a nice note... well for the male readers, as they would appreciate this!

Hmmm, if only I was a train on that track! Choo! Choo!

Weekend Recap

I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was pretty OK, as I had the entire weekend off. It's a rare occasion when I actually get an entire weekend off so I cherish these moments oh so much! I didn't do much this weekend though. Let me see Saturday I went to the supermarket and found these little packs of hash browns, surprisingly for a reasonable price, and just had to buy one. I had two this morning and they were just as good as the ones you get at the fast food joints! Yeah i know, they are not all that healthy, but I'll eat these only in moderation, and chances are they will last till month end. furthermore I'll be working out at the gym the entire week. Life is too short to deprive myself of the niceties! I also got a hair cut and once again look like a decent young man. On Sunday it was off to worship and then I spent the evening at Helshire and at my friends house where we chilled and chatted all evening. So in a nutshell it was a pretty decent, relaxing weekend.

School reopens today and that means the traffic will be back and raising it's ugly head along the streets of Kingston City! The bad thing is that I'll be working the day shift all week, so I'll suffer along with all the regular day working people. But the traffic will be even worse this morning as last night when I drove through Half Way Tree, I had to be dodging several poles that were protruding from the middle of the road as well as two gigantic holes in the middle of the intersection in Half Way Tree. That is certainly going to slow thing down in the morning traffic!

Folks, it's the first Monday morning of the month, so have a great week. How was your weekend? Good I hope?

Well, here is a little something I got in my email, found it funny. Note this is not PG.

Blind Man Test

A blind Jamaican man walks into a little restaurant and sits down.

The owner walks up to him and hands him a menu.

"Mi blind, sah, an caan se fe read de menu".

Jus bring mi one fork dat one ah yu customah use arreddy, an mi will smell it an order fram it"

A little confused, the owner walks over to the dirty dish pile and picks up a greasy fork. He returns to the man's table and hands it to him.

The blind man puts the fork to his nose and takes in a deep breath. "Ah, yes, dat's what mi will 'ave - rice nd peas wid jerk fish!"

Unbelievable, and after the blind man leaves, the owner walks towards the kitchen and tells his Wife Dawn, the cook, what just happened.

Several days later, the blind man returns, and the owner mistakenly brings him a menu again.

"Sir, remembah mi? Mi ah de blind man."

"I'm sorry, I didn't recognize you. I'll go get you a fork."

The owner gets a dirty fork for the blind man.

After another deep breath, the blind man says, "Dat smells great! Mi will take de jerk chicken an rice wid broccoli."

The owner thinks the blind man is screwing around with him and figures that the next time the man comes in, he's going to test him.

He returns the following week, but this time the owner sees him coming and runs to the kitchen. He tells his wife, "Dawn, rub this fork on your panties." Dawn does it and hands the fork to her husband.

As the blind man walks in and sits down, the owner is ready and waiting.

"Good afternoon, sir, this time I remembered you, and I have your fork ready for you."

The blind man puts the fork to his nose, sniffs, and says, "Rass mon, mi neva know say Dawn wuk yah!"

Propehcy, Prophecy and Prophets!

While browsing through The Gleaner's website an article caught my attention. The tittle of the article was, "Prophets reveals signs for 2008". This sent me into a flashback to last year when the self proclaimed prophet, Pastor Phinn, 'prophesied that the the Prime Minister Portia Simpson and her party would win the General Elections held late last year. However, it seems the, now unseen prophet, turned out to be a false prophet when the PNP was defeated at the polls. But this embarrassing fall from grace that the so-called prophet Phinn suffered did little to squelch the flames of the several religious leaders who proclaim to be prophets.

It seems propecies are the order of the day this year! According to the article there has been 62 predictions already for 2008 made by various so-called prophets and prophetesses. Prophecies range from the quiet obvious to seemingly ridiculous claims of the future. Some foresee an increase in crime here in Jamaica, while others see a much brighter future as the predict that the country will see financial prosperity. But these 'prophecies' are not limited to only our small island of Jamaica! Oh no! There are proclamation of doom for our Caribbean neighbors and countries far across the globe as it is claimed that "Bangladesh should brace for widespread epidemic, while India and Puerto Rico are expected to experience a series of natural disasters". In another article, one bishop claims to have received a special plan from God that will put Jamaica on a course for sustained success and has called for a meeting with him an the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition!

I know in a religious country like Jamaica a lot of persons believe in these religious leaders who claim to be prophets and flock their churches. however, I am very skeptical of these so-called self proclaimed prophets as the Bible itself said that there will be false prophets and their prophecies that would mislead many. Anyone can get up and say he/she is prophet/prophetesses and make predictions, especially when these predictions are made based on obvious trends. What are your thoughts on these 'prophets'/'prophetesses' and their many 'prophecies'?

2008!!!

2008 is finally here my friends! Another occasion to celebrate and to give thanks that we made it through one year and have the opportunity to begin a new one. To some it is an opportunity for a fresh start, a new beginning, a time to set new resolutions, while to others it is just a passage in the never ending time. Whatever, it is to you, I hope you have a wonderful productive year.

I don't believe in New Years Resolutions, but I do have a few goals that I want to fulfill. But I'll put it like this, I want to be stronger, stronger physically, emotionally, financially and spiritually.

I didn't go anywhere to ring in the New Year, instead I stayed home after coming from the gym, watched the CSI Sin City marathon, drink Sorrel with White Rum and Vodka and chatted on the phone until the new year. Sounds, pretty sad doesn't it? Well it didn't feel that way to me. For some reason, I am pretty content with how I have started the new year. It's off to work later in the afternoon, so I pretty much have nothing planned for tomorrow, but to catchup on some blogs. Enjoy the first holiday for 2008 ma peeps! By the way, how did you ring in the new year?
