CRASH!!!

OHHH NOOOO!!! It finally happened. I knew it would happen someday, it was just a matter of time. My PC has been acting up for sometime now, ever since the first system crash. Once again my PC has decided to crash on me again, once again threatening to loose all my latest files, all of my latest pictures.

In a desperate attempts to recover my documents I have summoned the force of my PC doctor and good friend. I hope he will get it up and running, if it's even just enough for me to get off my precious files.

I have, however, decided to throw in the towel and pawn off my PC. I think it's about time that I invest in a new decent system. My web site and graphic designing softwares as well as others have been pressuring my already mediocre system. This is now compounded with this recent failure of my system. I have set my eyes on a Dell laptop. Mi nuh have nuh money fi it, but I have to sacrifice and get a new PC. But knowing the nice and kind people you all are, I know you will be more than happy to contribute to the Stunner's New PC Fund!

As a result of the absence of my PC, I will not be able to post any of my pictures, and will have to settle with pictures "stolen", I mean borrowed, from the internet. Oh I feel so empty without my PC. Hopefully things will be ok soon....I really do hope so.

Star Poster Girl - Mucho Caliente!!!

Oh My, oh my, sooo bootylicious! This Star Poster girl has certainly got it, hot body and ass for days! Mucho Caliente!!! I saw this picture when on my routine visit to The Star's website and just had to capture it and post it on my blog! I know my fellow male bloggers will enjoy this one. Jamaica is certainly blessed where women are concerned.

How has your weekend been so far? It hasn't been good for me, I have to work the whole weekend, poor me. I can't wait for the holidays from school. Why? Well, apart from taking my very anticipated vacation, I will be able to request a change in my roster to allow me a couple of weekends off until school starts again.

Carnival in the Air!

Carnival is certainly in the air here in Jamaica! I went to the gym yesterday and to my surprise the gym was relatively empty, on a Monday, a day when it is packed with people trying to get their bodies in shape. Then I said to myself, "oh, Soca-robics". Yes it's carnival time here again in Jamaica, and the time for the pre-road-march warm-up, Soca-robics. Countless Kingstonians flock to the Mass Camp on on Oxford Road in New Kingston. They range in age from the very young children, to young adults, to the more mature in age. People of all sizes also go to this yearly fitness ritual, slim, full bodied and the fat go to get in shape and work up a sweat. There are also several other sessions in the Corporate area as well as all across the island for carnival and party lovers to get on bad. The Jamaican Carnival sessions are not just all about soca music. As you know Jamaica is the home of Dancehall music, so naturally there is the latest dancehall music mixed in with the selections of the latest soca songs, much to the delight of the sweat dripping fans.

UWI/UTech (The University of the West Indies, Mona and The University of Technology, Jamaica) Carnival was two weekend ago. The UWI /UTech students as well as other patrons reveled for the whole weekend, and bwoy did they get on bad! Friday they partied and gyrated in paint in their Juvert celebration. This was followed by the road march around Ring Road on the Mona Campus on Saturday, where they really kicked up a storm with their whining, gyrating and grinding! Yes grinding, real bumping and grinding as some of them were in various sexual positions...seemed as if they were having sex! It culminated on Sunday, with a day at the License Beach (if a suh it spell) in St. Thomas where the partying continued. With all this description you must be thinking that I went. Well if you are, yuh wrong! I didn't get to make it, but as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words, I actually saw the pictures of the whole event, including the one above, at Restriction Entertainment. You all need to check out these pictures, trust mi dem gwaan bad!

Carnival 2006 Jamaican style will climax with the various road marches April 21. I said several road marches, as there is the Jamaica Carnival headed by Byron Lee) as well as Baccanal Carnival and I think there is another one. This time I will try to make it to the road march to take some pictures for myself. Most naturally I will be sharing them with you. Until then keep on whining!

Starapples

You may be wondering why I have posted this appetizing dish. Well I carried my GF to dinner on Monday. We went to a little restaurant named Starapples, located on Hope Road. It's a nice small restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant itself is renovated old time Jamaican house, nicely painted in green and purple, the colours of the starapple fruit. The whole decor is based on the starapple theme.

The food does tastes really good and its presentation is nice, not to fancy and not too bland. You get a gourmet meal, but super sized! I had Salfish Fritters served with Pepper Jelly for appetizer, hhmm that's something you guys should try! Then for the entree it was Lasagna served with Garlic Bread and Fresh Garden Salad. Mi nyam mi belly full! Oh yes, some Mango Juice to wash it down. They make a mean Jamaican Oxtail and some decent Curried Chicken and Roti. As if the quality of the food isn't good enough, the price is also surprisingly manageable! Good food for a good price, just my kinda deal. So if you're in the neighborhood and looking for some food you can try it out. Dem shoulda pay mi fi all this free publicity!

The rest of this week just blew by, between work and school I don't know where the days went. I got back the results for my Economics test, and I'm feeling pretty ok, can't say the same for my Digital Circuits test...I won't even talk about that one &@$@^(!%&. I have a couple of labs to do and two more tests to face. The first draft of my exam time table is out. Yep the impending danger is just a month away, I need to buckle down some more. I can't wait for the Summer break! How has your week been so far?

The Browning Complex I - I call It Discrimination!

During my regular blogroll, I have come across quiet a few posts from my fellow Caribbean bloggers in other countries, who relate their experiences with racism. I must admit that those cases are extreme when I consider the social interactions in Jamaica. However, a form of racism, if I may use such a harsh word, exists in the Jamaican culture.

The thing is I have a fair complexion or what is locally known as "Browning" in Jamaica. The blessing and the curse. I must admit that this complexion does have it's advantages as the likkle high colour and pretty hair somehow makes you a bit more appealing to quiet a few girls and for some it gives that a boost up the corporate ladder. However, there is a price to pay for being a Browning.

"Brown man!"
One of the tortures I had to endure while growing up and still am enduring is constantly being called Brown man or Browning. Some have even gone as far as calling me Mr. Chin...note I am of Irish and Black decent, not Asian! I find it extremely annoying when I'm referred to as Brown man or Browning. It feels as if I'm being singled out for the colour of my skin. If you don't know my name, I'm ok with "young man" or "Yow my yute" or refer to be by the colour of my clothes. That's how a person of dark complexion calls to another dark person in Jamaica, why do I have to be referred to by the colour of my skin? I don't walk around calling to people as "Black man", "Black woman" or "Blackning"!

Yuh Rich
The one that really pisses me of the assumption that because I'm light skinned I have money. I call it the "Brown People Have Money Syndrome". I will abbreviate it and call it BMS for the rest of this article (venting). It is a very common misconception among many Jamaicans, in other words many Jamaicans suffer from BMS. I face this almost every day, when I go about my own business in public.

I remember this incident some time ago. I just started working and I didn't have my car as yet, so I had to take public transportation to visit my mom back in Portland. I was on this mini bus, and if you have ever traveled on a mini bus (Mostly 15 seat, Toyota Hiace or the larger 20+ seat, Coaster) in Jamaica, yuh know it packer dan a sardine tin! There was this big fat woman beside me, taking up two persons seat, and squeezing the life out of me. As if that wasn't bad enough I had to drive through "The Junction" in St. Mary. The Junction is the most winding and treacherous road in Jamaica. Corners inside of corners, semi-loose rocks on one side of the road and precipices on the other side of the road. As the bus rocked to my side this fat woman attempted to crush me to death. So in an attempt to save my life, I used my elbow to gentle ease her up. She didn't like it and proceeded to cuss me out. "People like yuh nuh fi travel pon bus...” and the statement that took the cake, "...all if mi did brown like yuh mi woulda have mi own car...” How the hell the colour of my skin will magically allow me to have a car? I have to for a living just like any other Jamaican!

I find that in Jamaica there is a price for dark skinned people and a price for light skinned people. If I decide to buy something from some of the higglers who sell on the side of the road, I have to pay Brown Skin Tax (BST). Just because of the colour of my skin, some of these higglers think that I am rich. A few months ago I was searching for a dog tag (the chains soldiers wear), and asked the price and this man wanted to sell me a $300 dog tag for $600, "a wah tek dah fool yah", I said to myself and walked off. Just a few days ago, a dumb ass self-proclaimed repairman claimed to have repaired my girlfriend’s fridge and because I was there, he wanted to charge $2000 fro diagnosing the problem (which he did not!) after telling her that it was $800. When she objected he proceeds to turn to me and say, "Brown skinned man like yuh a big monetary man, yuh must can tek care a di fee." What di rass! Here we go again, another case of BMS.

Maybe racism is too much of a strong word, or call me overly sensitive, but I do face a form of discrimination here in Jamaica, due to the colour of my skin.

Wife 1.0

I still have another test to deal with this week so I can't get to write a good post until after Wednesday. So I'll introduce you guys to a software on the market that I learned about via a friends email. It seems some of the MEN 2006 systems are experiencing some problems after installing this software. Here is a common problem that some users are experiencing and a typical technical solution.

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity. Applications such as Domino Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6 no longer run , crashing the system whenever selected. I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!

Dear Troubled User,

This is a very common problem that men complain about. Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed. You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this.

Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings-Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear.exe" to alleviate software augmentation.The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway. Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean.exe and Sweep.exe, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2 .

However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag-Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0. WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system and your hardware.

All Kinda Chattings

It seems these past days I have been scarce in the blog world. I have been busy, not with school work, but with all kinda stuff. I have a test next week and I have my project to complete but for some reason I just can't find the motivation to put in some serious work. However, Mr. Stunner has found all kinda things to do, watching TV, going to the gym, lazing around...heck I just feel plain lazy. I have also been working almost non-stop, working some over time at work...got to get some doe to survive! Maybe that's why I have been feeling so wutliss (worthless).


Yesterday

As promised I will tell you about Yesterday. Yesterday was pretty ok, not as nice as the last one I went to, but it was pretty ok. I did enjoy myself, bought some liquor...didn't have as much as usual, cause it neva did free! The selectors played a onslaught 90's music ranging from Hip Hop joints from Biggy, 2pac, Busta Rymes and House of Pain to Dancehall hits from Bounty Killer, Beenie Man and Sizzla much to the delight of the patrons. At first I was skeptical about the venue, Peppers, but it didn't turn out too bad. We went all the way down to the back to find a place to jam. Yuh done know seh yuh haffi find a one spot fi claim a dem place deh! But for some reason it seems that everyone took our little area for a major thoroughfare! Dem just wouldn't stop pass pass and bounce inna di I. I didn't stay long though, I was working a lot of over time the previous couple of days and I had work the following morning. But overall I enjoyed myself. A well deserved break to unwind.


Shopping

Today I went to Maxie's Department Store to do some shopping. Maxie's was having a sale so I decided to go get a few items of clothes at bargain prices. Didn't leave with much though, just a pair of jeans. Seems that everyone decided to catch the sale early, so there were not much jeans my size with the design I want. I didn't buy any shirt because they didn't have any that I liked, so I guess I will have to do some online shopping. It seems that even with the shipping costs, I pay less than if I bought the items out here in a store. Nevertheless, I am satisfied with my one jeans.


A Mountain of Nastiness

The controversial movie Brokeback Mountain is on everyone's lips these days. Even here in Jamaican, where the Palace Amusement Company sell-out (has sold out) and is showing the movie in one of their cinemas. I can't believe the day would come when my fellow Jamaican's, being such a homophobic society, would allow this movie to open in our local cinema. Where is the broadcasting commission? I won't say much about it though. I wont say that this movie is just pure nastiness. I won't say that such a disgusting movie should not be shown in any cinema. Although that's how I feel. All I will say is that this is one movie I definitely will not be watching! And I will share this comic with you.

More Suffering

The Jamaican public will have more burdens added to there already broken back. The teifing government is now proposing an increase in the gas tax! What the hell! Isn't the gas price already at a record high? Doesn't the Jamaican people have enough financial woes to deal with? Jamaican's are already overtaxed! But noo, the government feels that they can still pull more money out of our meager empty pockets to fatten their swarthy fat asses! An increase in the gas tax will have serious implications as everything in the country would see a price hike. Yes the Bible is right "in the last days their will be critical times hard to deal with" and those hard times start here in Jamaica! Lawd more suffering!!!!
