Dons,Gangs,Kingfish,Protests And Violence- News From Ja.

The past 24 hours hours have been a very eventful period in Jamaica. Let me summarize the events making up the top stories in the news today.

Early Sunday morning a joint police military operation spear-headed by Operation Kingfish shot and killed Donovan 'Bulbie' Bennett, named as Jamaica's most wanted. The leader of the 'Clansman' gang, which has operated out of Spanish Town in St. Catherine, Bulbie was on the police most wanted list for more than 10 years. [read article]

Monday morning gunmen attempted to attack a police station in retaliation for the death of there gang-leader. This attempt was thwarted by the police, however gunmen managed to shoot and injure three policemen in 3 separate incidents. [read article]

Monday afternoon protesting Spanish Town residents blocked several roads and burnt down a police post. [read article] As a result of this the town of Spanish Town was locked down as business places, schools and public transportation had to cease operations for the day. [read article]

Sometime Monday, Commanding Officer for St. Catherine North, Superintendent of Police Kenneth Wade charged that the ruling political party was supporting the very said gang while the opposition is backing a rival gang, the One Order Gang. He also said that the very citizens protesting the killing are also known supporters of the ruling party. [read article]

It seems that Jamaica just keeps getting worse, dons (who are known killers) are killed by the police after years of terrorizing the public, there is senseless violence in retaliation, inner city citizens mount roadblocks and destroy property in riots as a form of protest and the government officials fuel the violent cycle by supporting the dons to get votes. This never ending cycle just keeps going in the restless island called Jamaica.

Guess This Riddle!

The JPS Saga

I have been a bad blogger for the past few days. But I have been so busy and I had such an eventful week thus far. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

The Ordeal
I went on the road on Tuesday to take care of some business. On my return home I noticed that I had no light. So upset, I called JPS to see if there was any scheduled power failure. But to my surprise there was none. Then I remembered that on the last bill I received, 2 days ago, I saw a balance brought forward. So I decided to call again to check my account status. To my dismay, the recording was saying that I owed the full amount for the previous month. WHAT! I payed that bill 3 days before the due date! What the hell is this recording saying?

Now Mr. Stunner, has now grown upset! How the hell this system telling me that I didn't pay my bill and I have a record that I payed the bill. So I decided to speak to a customer care agent. So I called and selected option 0. Now I think JPS just wanted to throw some fuel on the fire blazing. I was on hold for about half hour. At one point I forgot I was on the phone and actually thought I was just sitting listening to music. When I finally got an agent, home boy is going to tell me they didn't receive any payment for the account and that my light was disconnected. What the rass! How the %$@*(@! yuh mean seh yuh nuh get nuh money and mi light disconnected. I have a %$@&*&! Credit card statement with the payment on it!

Ok. I decided to call NCB. As I used there online services to pay my light bill. Mr. Agent enlightened me that yes the payment was made and it was sent to JPS. So puzzled, I asked him to check the account number. Low and behold, homeboy Stunner, left off the last digit. Shit! I checked and double checked before submitting the account number. Oh well shit happens. Mr NCB was quiet helpful, as he tried to contact their contact person at JPS to rectify the situation. But just my luck, he could not get anyone in that department at JPS. I think JPS a try spite mi!
Anyway he said I should call back JPS and explain what happened and see if they could help, as he was going to log the problem and continue trying. Ok back to JPSCC for more music.

And music it was! Rass I stayed on the phone for another half hour listening to more music, song after song, album after album. Finally I got an agent, So I explained to her the problem. And of course her first response was that there was nothing she could do. So I said there must be something. So she decided to do some checks with her finance department! Now this takes the cake! It so happens that JPS did in fact receive the money. However, because the premises number was incomplete the payment was rejected and hence nothing was credited to my account. But, dutty, tinking, thieving JPS sit down pon mi money! Yes folks they just had my money and disconnected my light. You mean to tell me, you see a payment made and it was rejected for 3 weeks now, you have the complete customer number and hence contact details, and you didn't call the customer much less contact the bank that you received the payment from? You just sit down on the money! JPS is one rass!

So she had it sorted out and the money was credited to the account and they waived the reconnection fee. So Miss Agent said she is going to try and get it reconnected the same evening , however, she thinks it's a good chance the reconnection would not be done until the next day. A deh suh it done. This was 4:00 pm and all 6:00 pm she still can't get anyone to reconnect my light. 8:00 still can't get anyone! I now make it official that JPS is the worst utility company in the Island, no, the world! Yes, folks I had to buy some Happy Ice to keep my stuff from spoiling as I didn't get back my light until sometime Wednesday. Yep, JPS strikes again!

Bring Back The Hangman!

Since the alarming rise in the Island crime and murder rate, the Jamaican public has been demanding the resumption of hanging. Many in the Jamaican public see the resumption of this form of capital punishment as one of the main ways to curb the escalating crime rate. The Prime Minister himself has announced in his latest address to the nation that his administration is considering pursuing the resumption of hanging. The leader of the opposition has also expressed his support for this form of punishment. So with all this support, why is it that the convicted criminals are not being punished for their crime?

Well, who are the ones against it? The Human Rights organizations are one of the most vocal group of people against this form of punishment. The other anti-hanging supporter is the UK and the EU. The the British Member of the European Parliament, on her visit to Jamaica said, "It's a fundamental issue for the European Union. It's a written-in commitment that no member state of the union will have the death penalty". In other words she is saying that no country that is begging (especially Jamaica) from the UK and the EU will be allowed to resume hanging even if they have the highest murder rate. The crime situation in this country has become a malignant tumor, that is crippling the country and driving fear in it's residents. Since the sharp increase in our crime rate the investor confidence in this country has plummeted and the tourist arrival ia also on the decline. These criminals have now even turned to not only raping and murdering women, but also young teenage girls and worst nine and eight year olds! I just read an article in the Sunday Gleaner about three women who were abducted from a bar, raped then beaten, shot and thrown into a sewage main. The crime situation is this country has gotten out of hand and all the attempts the government have made, have failed. This is now one of the last resorts and some external foggies who don't have to deal with the enormous crime rate are saying we should not implement a measure to combat it.

Why should we keep these criminals running on the loose terrorizing and murdering us and those convicted in jail getting fat from our hard earned money? Murderers should pay. Some may argue that innocent persons may pay the ultimate price. However, there are persons on death row who without a shadow of a doubt committed violent crimes and should be made to pay. Dem fi hang! Di damn murderers fi hang. These criminals have nothing to fear. They know that they have a good chance of not getting caught and even if they get caught they will just go to jail and still enjoy life. And ever so often some of these murderers escape from jail only to prey upon innocent people.

This alarming crime situation and these senseless, wanton murder needs to be curtailed. I'm not saying that hanging is the answer, but it can be a deterrent. And in a situation like this, it's worth trying. What do you think?

The Sun At Last!

After suffering from the onslaught of rain over the past week it was a welcomed relief when I looked in the sky yesterday morning. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the sun peeping out, like shy excited child, from behind a thin veil of cloud. I had to run outside and feel the warm rays penetrate my skin. I couldn't tell when last it felt so good to be standing in the sun. Today seems overcast in the city, but hopefully later on in the day we will be blessed with some brilliant sunshine.

Anyway, I'm leaving you with a short post today. It has been a long night at work...As usual. My mind is mighty cloudy right about now, can't wait to hit the sack. Record Breaking Season!

Hurricane Wilma has certainly amazed everyone, even the people on The Weather Channel. It has broken and set quite a few records in the past couple of days. After peaking at a 175 mph category 5 hurricane it has now loosed a bit of steam and is now a very strong category 4 hurricane. Wilma has become the most intense hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin and had the lowest pressure (882 mb) ever recorded for a hurricane. Jamaica has been drenched with days of continuous rain but Wilma has now turned her attention to the Cayman Islands, Cuba, and South Mexico, and as the weather people expects, it's eyeing Florida. The rains have eased up here in Jamaica, but we won't be getting a real break until Friday.

This season has definitely been an extremely active one with 21 Hurricanes battering the Atlantic Basin. Due to the record number of hurricanes this season, all the letters used to name the hurricanes have been used up. As a result, meteorological will now resort to using the Greek alphabet to name any new tropical storm or hurricane. Here is a list of all the hurricane that have made up the onslaught on the region: Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Dennis, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irene, Jose, Katrina, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rita, Stan, Tammy, Vince and Wilma.

Record numbers of powerful hurricanes, massive earthquakes, tsunami and re-emerging diseases. All these disasters, this earth is certainly becoming more and more hostile. Leaves us to wonder what the earth will throw at us next and for us in the tropics, what the rest of this season and worse the what the next hurricane season will be like! All we can do is hope and pray for the best or at least the strength to deal with it. Enjoy the rest of your day people.
