Wine, Spirits and Food Galore!

Tasty dessert from the Jamaica Pegasus booth
On Sunday November 14, 2010 the Jamaica Pegasus launched its two day event that features a culmination of wines, various spirits and food samples dubbed as the Jamaica Pegasus Wine, Spirits and Food Festival. I was invited to partake in this wonderful event that had a mixture of two of my favorite things, food and alcohol by the Director of Marketing of the Jamaica Pegasus, Prudence Simpson. I was thrilled when the invitation was extended to me to wet my palate with all the offerings! So with belly in one hand and my trusted camera in the next I was off to the Jamaica Pegasus! So what did this festival had to offer?

The Appleton Estate booth
I arrived at the Jamaica Pegasus at 4:30 pm and was greeted in the lobby by the wonderful Prudence Simpson who ushered me to the Jamaica Pegasus Grand Jamaica Suite, which was already a buzz with activity. There were several colourful and alluring booths neatly arranged in the large suite beckoning to the eyes. The booths raged from several wine & spirits companies to an array of food distributors and manufacturers, as well as the Jamaica Pegasus' own booth.

Santa Carolina Wines
I started off with the Jamaica Pegasus booth which offered a selection of pastries including my favorite, Black Forrest cake! After indulging in the pastry, I was off to moisten my palate with some wine. My alcohol consumption started off with Trivento Argentina which had a great assortment of wines, that I thoroughly enjoyed! I then made my way to the Tastee booth, then to the Worthy Park Estate booth where a lovely young lady made me a mix that included Rum Bar rum.

CB chicken ham
Next it was to the Mandingo booth, where I was a bit disappointed that Maliah Michel wasn't there, but the ladies there were enough to keep me occupied and to cheer me up with a mix! Next it was more wine at the Santa Carolina booth, food at Geddes Grant, more food at the Hunts booth, met a friend at the Nirvana booth, ate more food at the CB booth! But it didn't end there, oh no! I had Sex In The Sun at the Wray & Nephew booth, had another rum mix at the Appleton Estate booth, more food at the Celestial booth. I then topped it off with some Jablum Coffee with White Rum from the Jablum Booth and some soy ice cream from Country Farmhouse!

Nexus in performance.
But the festival wasn't only about food and alcohol, it also had live entertainment and giveaways! The performing arts group named Nexus gave an awesome and very entertaining performance which ad the crowns attention throughout their entire performance! I had never heard of Nexus before, but they certainly made a good impression at the Jamaica Pegasus Wine, Spirits and Food Festival! The Jamaica Pegasus also pleased it's audience with several giveaways including a weekend for two at their hotel. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, the wine, the rum mixes, the food, meet and greeting and of course taking lots of photographs! The festival end Monday November 15, so if you haven't gone yet you should check it out! Definitely something you should mark on your calendar next year too!

What A Weekend!

I had a fun-filled weekend this past weekend, from New Kingston to Ochie and back to New Kingston, partying photos and fashion all crammed into one weekend. Let me Recap.

Photo: watever.com (May Daze week 2)

On Friday night after working the evening shift, I dash out of the office at a few minutes fast twelve, revved the engine and made my way up to Akbar, which was the venue for May Daze. This was the final of the series that runs throughout the month of May. Considering that i have never been to May Daze before, the great reviews i heard and that this was the last of the series, I made sure I found myself there. After driving around the block twice in search of parking... I hate when I go to venues that don't have proper parking... I finally decided to go to the payed parking which I ignored each time I passed. The parking was $200, but after some serious negotiations I managed to get it for $150. But the park for searching wasn't the only delay, as I had to join a never ending line which seemed as if it had no intentions of moving. I'm sure I stood there in the line for about twenty minutes and was quite upset to find out at the top of the line that I had to be competing with others who were not in the line! Good sense finally prevailed when the security, if I could call him that, restored a bit of order. I went in the party, met up with my friends, and after getting a drink from the bar I quickly forgot about the earlier delays and enjoyed the music mix and the vibes. May Daze was a decent party, I enjoyed myself and didn't regret the $600 entry fee I payed.

Spanish Town Iron Bridge

After spending the greater part of the day on Saturday to recover and working another evening shift it was time for the Flickr North Coast group trip! I woke up early on Sunday morning to ensure I was read to catch the bus which was scheduled to depart Kingston at 7:30 am destined to the White River Valley in St. Mary. Needless to say, the bus didn't depart until 8:00 am was still on time, Jamaican time that is, lol! The trip to White River Valley was not a none stop trip, as it comprised of several photo stops at various places of interest along the way. These "five minute" stops, which turned out to be half hour at least, allowed to to snap photos at the Spanish Town Iron Bridge, the Flat Bridge, Bog Walk damn and the White River bridge. But that can be expected as once you start taking photos, one looses track of time as you get immersed into your passion. Our group of photographers also stopped traffic in Spanish Town as people started to gather in curiosity when we were down by the bridge shooting. We stopped at a place in Walkers Wood, called Liming for lunch, somewhere I always drove past on my way to the north coast and never stopped. The trip was great, I got to meet a lot of people from the Flickr group, visited places I have never been, got some good photos and just enjoyed the company of my fellow photo enthusiasts. I will be posting some of the photos on my photoblog and on my Flickr account.

Fashion Block 2009

Still tired from my North Coast trip, I was still in the mood to do something I have never done before, and this time it was Fashion Block, a part of Style Week 2009. Fashion Block is a runway show held right in the middle of Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston and featured the fashion of may designers locally and abroad. This fashion show is the production of the Saint International Model Agency and as such the designs were presented to the huge crown by the Saint International models. I didn't manage to get any good shots, as I still haven't received my zoom lens and the external flash I recently purchased. I however got to enjoy some guess performances from a few of our new local Dancehall artistes. Despite the obvious disappointment of not getting some good shots, it was a good experience as I have never been to one of these shows before.

That was my weekend in a nutshell, how was your weekend?

Vibes, Festival & Lots of Carnival Photos!

On Saturday I found myself at Mello Vibes, a party that fuses the best music of the past for your listening and dancing pleasure. It does not matter which decade is your favorite, Mello vibes covered them all. The music ranged from as far back as the 1950's up to the early 2000's. The vibe was right and the music selection kept the patrons dancing up a storm all night long. I arrived at approximately 12:30am and the music kept people moving until I left at approximately 4:00am. It wasn't only the music and the vibe that was right as this party was easy on my pocket, especially in these challenging economic and tax burdened times. At a pre-sold price of $JM600 (just over US$6.00) pre-sold and JM$800 at the gate, you can't ask for more!

On Sunday I was off to the Liguanea Festival of Fine Arts and Photography to view some of Jamaica's creative works done by some of the countries top artists. The art festival showcased paintings, drawings, sculptures, portraits, ceramics, jewellery and, of most interest to me, photography. There were a lot of creative works on display at the festival, and just reiterates how much talent is here in our little island. I spent most of my time, as expected, in the Photography booths where I as humbled by the many photography exhibitions that were on show. It has shown me how much more I have to learn in this art and has even encouraged me to continue in my hobby and hopefully soon to be additional source of income. I was also fortunate to meet a few members of the Flickr group I recently joined, the Jamaica, West Indies photo group. I am hoping to go on the photo trips that they regularly have, not only to learn from these more experienced photographers, but also to take a lot of photos as well as visit the many beautiful places in Jamaica.

As promised in my recent post, I have mustered up the energy and have uploaded the over 700 photographs I took at last Sunday's Bacchanal Carnival Road March. It took my quite a while to upload all these photographs, but I eventually completed the process on Sunday night... shhh, while at work [whispers softly]. I have also added a small post about the Carnival season on my, very neglected travel blog, Mek A Trod. However, I will be posting about more attractions this week and will make an effort to update the blog more often. Also, I will soon be inviting you guys to guest post on the blog about the local attractions, eateries and events that you have visited. So without further deliberation, click here for the pics.

Winnifred's, Jerk, Fun Weekend

Winnifred's Beach

Hail crowd of people! This weekend was a good one, why? Well I headed to the beautiful, lush and green parish of Portland. A few coworkers and I planned a small trip to Portland, in particular to Winnifred's Beach. Saturday was a beautiful day, the sun was shining brilliantly, the sky was blue, it wasn't too hot, the wind was blowing gently and the sea was enticing. I had so much fun in the clear, turquoise, crystal water that covered the beautiful white sand. I swam, I played, I splashed, I frolicked and I got a tan.

After all that activity, we all certainly opened up our appetite and the little snacks we brought couldn't fill that void. So it was off the Boston to get some of that famous Boston Jerk. We ordered up some jerk pork, jerk chicken, festivals and some cool, fresh coconut water to wash it down. Let me tell you, that jerk pork was great! It was like the jerk pork I was used to when I was a youth. The pork was tender and juicy, full of flavour and that kind of pepper that makes your eye water and give you that fiery feeling in your esophagus with each swallow. Trust me, this kind of pork wasn't for the faint of heart, it had my mouth and throat on fire, but it was still great.

Festivals

After fulling our tummies we settled on the bay, mostly stricken by "nigaritis" and beaten out by the beach most of those on the trip all dosed off in the cool sea breeze. After chilling out and resting up a bit, it was time to leave the natural beauty of the country and head back to the concrete jungle. It seemed short, but as they say, time flies when you are having fun.

Only In Jamaica...

... you find signs as comical as these. One good thing though is that they are thinking about conserving and protecting our environment... well at least the spring. I saw this sign late last year when I went to Winnifred's Beach in Portland. I just could not resist taking a photo of tit.

It's another Friday and the beginning of another weekend, and it is shaping up to be a cold weekend. the temperature started to fall from Wednesday and it was certainly cold when I was heading home from work at midnight! It seems another cold front has found its way into our vicinity bringing the much cooler temperatures to our tropical island. So if the cold front lingers then I guess you need to grab a sweater if you are going out in the nights this weekend.

Oh, I almost forgot, if you haven't noticed already, I now have my own favicon for Stunner's Afflictions. If you use Blogger, then you can go to this free site, generate a favicon and then they provide you a link to where the can host your favicon for free. Blogger does not allow you to upload the .ico flie extension so you would have to link to the favicon hosted elsewhere. So the site I recommended comes in very handy.

Whether you are warm or cold have yourself a great weekend my peeps!

Portie Trip and A New Notebook

Well Christmas come and gone, and without the usual hype! It seems the Yuletide season has suffered from the global economic downturn also. but despite the drying cash flow I hope you all got a chance to enjoy yourselves over the holidays and the long weekend for you non-shift workers. My holidays... well weren't really holidays as I had to work on both Christmas and Boxing days. But I did get a chance to enjoy the weekend with my spoogie... well one day of the weekend.

Winniefred's Beach Portland.

We went to Portland to soak up some of the warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea at Winniefred's Beach and of course to get some of the famous Boston Jerk Pork and Chicken. The North Coast Highway is well on it's way and has almost reached it's final destination at Port Antonio. I must admit, the road feel sweet nuh ratid! driving to Portland has never felt so good, especially since the beginning of the highway construction. The road has been paved all the way up to Norwich, which is only about 10 miles outside of Port Antonio. However, the roadway from Norwich to Port Antonio is nothing to sweat about as it has already been primed for paving so you can still drive with relative comfort. I guess Portland will be seeing more of me next year! Road trip anyone?

My new HP Pavilion dv5

On another note, I have received my new notebook, yay! I decided to get myself the HP Pavilion dv5, which was on special earlier this month. My older notebook is well... old. It was getting a bit slower, but it was also running out of hard drive space, not because of files, but because of the programmes installed and I didn't have a DVD burner. So I decided I need to get a newer notebook with better specs. I found this awesome deal on the HP website and so I decided to grab it. The specs include 4GB RAM, 2GHz dual core Pentium processor, 320GB Hard Drive, DVD burner and a built in web cam, all enclosed in a sleek design. All of this for just over US$600. So I am currently in the process of moving my files as I have already installed my programmes. In fact I am writing this post using my new notebook and the keys feel great as I type. Well of course it is running Windows Vista, as Windows XP is almost extinct these days and the only problem I have with this notebook is that it doesn't warn you that the battery is running out of charge, it just goes to sleep. This should be able to keep me for the next three years... or longer based on this economic climate.

Yesterday is History, But It Was Great!

Yesterday is history but it certainly was great flashback to the music that was real music! Great music, great vibes and music that you can actually dance with someone to. The music kept flowing from the speakers with awesome mixes of music from the not too distant past, 90's early 2000. The genres kept the vibes going and ensured that no patron got bored: Dancehall, R&B, Hip Hop and Lovers Rock from the days of my earlier youth. Everywhere you turned you could see people dancing to the music that filled the air at the Mas Camp in New Kingston. Forwards were abundant and the chorus of patrons singing along to their favorite songs from the past, while their waists rocked and wined to the beat.

Since it was Heineken Yesterday, Heineken Beer was free all night long, much to the delight of the partying patrons. I didn't have any beer as I am not that much of a beer fan, so it was mixed drink for me. It wasn't as jam packed as it usually is, but it was still a huge crowd. But the turnout is understandable as there are so many competing events at this time of the year. I had a great time at Heineken Yesterday, as was expected. One thing, Yesterday and Good Times are the real parties, parties where you are guaranteed to have fun! The day one of these events flop, it the last day I go to any party, lol! Yesterday was certainly a good day... or should I say night.

Truckin' Ain't for Sissies! (Truckfest 2008)

Damn right!

On Sunday I went to Truckfest with a few of my friends with the hopes of seeing some well tricked out trucks. But despite a few well polished and outfitted trucks, it was mostly ordinary truckes that were cleanup for display. The event itself wasn't as organized as an event should be and for something that was also dubbed family fun day we were rather pissed that we couldn't bring in our igloo. But despite the obvious disappointment I did manage to get a few decent shots. So here are a few of the pictures I took. You may olso go to my photoblog for some more photos. As usual you can click on the images to enlarge.

Mean monster trucks

Big red tiger trucks

Well polished, fancy interiors

Trucks with their polished engines on display

Trucks with bright pretty lights

Trucks that breathed fire

All kinds of trucks!

That was truckfest in a nutshel, well in a few shots. I hope you liked the photos.

Pull it Up...It's the Weather for Love

After almost endless days of brilliant sunshine and extreme heat, the summer rains have finally come. With a flash of lightning and the crash of thunder the rains came down as if it was being announced like royalty. It started as a moderate shower last night, but then it got more intense. It seems the rainclouds found the soil to be too parched for moderate showers and decided to drench the thirsty soil.

The rain fell all night last night, the kind of rain that makes you want to cuddle up in bed all night with that special someone, or make some sweet passionate love all night long. Saturday morning picket up where Friday night left off with the rain, from light, to moderate, to down right heavy and so the cycle continues as the land is massaged and cleansed by the incessant rain drops. It's one of those mornings that you don't want to get out of bed, or if you do it's just for some breakfast to give you that feeling of contentment as you crawl back to the warmth of your bed and the arms of your lover.

But not everyone can be so lucky, no, not me. I had to get up out of bed, reluctantly put on my outer garments and beat it through the weather of romance, drive along the wet city streets to of all places, work. But I guess, that's how I keep a roof over my head, my mode of transportation, and the electricity and internet to keep blogging. If you are in your bed all curled up, listening to the pitter patter of the rain drops, then count your blessings with every drop. If you have been torn from the warmth and comfort of your bed, like me, just hope you will be off the next time the cozy weather comes back around.

For all the lovers out there, wrapped up in the warmth of each other, this is one for you. Biggest Pull it Up ever, enjoy...

Friday Roundup With Some Sweetness

It's Friday again! Yay!... Well, nothing much to get excited about though, even though I am, strangely, off this weekend. The thing is, I am so used to NOT having weekends off, that when I do get one I don't know what the hell to do with it. So of course, this is one such weekend that I have no particular plans for. But I am sure that I will find something to do, even if it is lazing around the entire weekend, after all doesn't a hard working young man deserve that! So what has the Stundar (Stunner Radar) picked up this week?

Who Am I?
During my regular browsing on the Internet I found out that Beenie Man, the girls dem suga or more like D'Angel suga daddy, has released his biography entitled "Who am I?... The untold Story of Beenie Man" [photos here]. Well this seems to be a good move to increase his earnings, but come on, there are actually more stories? Beenie Man's life has been basically a public saga from his inception into Dancehall till now! The latest being his well known love affair with female Dancehall Artiste, D'Angel. But based on what we know so far of the Artiste's dramatic life, this book should definitely be interesting!

More Celebrity Expos'e!
The Internet expos'e continues in our little island of Jamaica! This comes hot off the heels of recent videos of well known Jamaican television/media personalities engaging in their personal sexual activities. There are pictures being circulated on the Internet, I know because I got them, of a popular television personality posing topless for the camera. In the picture there is no mistaking who she is or where she works as if you look closely you can see her company logo on the shirt she had on. But what is interesting about this one is that she is the coworker of the famous "Milk" and as if that is not enough, she is now hosting the very same show that Milk hosted before the release of her sex tape! Maybe it is just me, or is something a bit fishy about this? Looking in, looking out, looking even better, indeed!

Gloom Over the City
Once again the city of Kingston has been covered with gloom, no not crime, that hasn't left! No it's smoke sweeping through the city from the Riverton landfill as it is once again on fire. I personally have not been affected by the smoke as persons in other areas of the corporate area have. Maybe it's due to my location or the wind direction, but even though it seems the smoke has reached everywhere by now, it is not as bad where I am. The last time (yes, it seems to happen every year) there was a fire, I was living off Red Hills road and I ended up at the doctor and on medication. So I have a lot to be thankful for this time.

That's just some of the news hitting the Stunner-waves this week. Hopefully I will enjoy my weekend off and hope you will too! As I haven't dropped on of these in a long time, here is a Weekend Eye Candy to kick-off the weekend.

Wanted!!!

After watching the flashy previews and trailers and after going to palacamusement.com to see the local ratings I decided that I wanted to see the movie Wanted on the big screen. So on Saturday night the opportunity presented itself for e to go see if it was all hype or something that I really 'wanted' to see.

The movie started with some funny scenes and narration, but this did not drag on as the action didn't hesitate to jump in full force! If you wanted a definition of an action packed movie, then Wanted would be one of the illustrative definitions. If fast, racy, gun slinging, car chasing, stunt filled action is on your menu, then Wanted is certainly the movie to wet your appetite! The main characters James McAvoy (Neva know him till this movie) who played Wesley and Angelina Jolie (Fox) delivered some serious action and did the movie justice and then there is Morgan Freeman (Sloan), well what can I say it's Morgan Freeman you can't expect nothing less than the best. What would an action movie be without killer graphics? The graphics in this movie was totally awesome and blended well with the action this movie spewed.

Of course no movie is perfect and thus Wanted does have it's own faults. There are one or two scenes that just seem out of place with the movie and one particular scene that I just think pushed the limit of my imagination a bit to far. Of course you know I won't tell you the scenes as this will just spoil it for you. However, it did not spoil the movie for me as the action was good enough to keep me occupied. Overall Wanted was a pretty good movie, and certainly a gret movie if action is what you are into. I give it a Stunner rating of 4 out of 5.

Portie Weekend! Yay!

Winifred's Beach

Once gain I braved the tumultuous road to Port Antonio, through the winds and turns of the Junction Road in the highlands of St. Mary, along the intermittently paved roadway under construction in Portland. The road to Port Antonio, although extremely terrible, is much better than it was the last few times I dared to travel along it's rocky, precipice infected pathway. There is a good stretch of paved road now starting from Annotto Bay, and trust mi it feel sweet! There is also a very long section that has been prepped for paving, so it is slowly looking like a road again.

My weekend getaway from the City was wonderful as I got to spend times with a few of my good friends and of course I went to the beach! I got over at about 8 pm on Friday evening and was quickly ushered to a little restaurant on the outskirts of the town in Breast Works, called... shit, I forgot the name. Anyway, it's not one of the official restaurants you are used to, it is actually located in what appears to be someones front yard. but the ambiance created by the bamboo seats and bamboo roof was a welcomed change from the traditional food places. The food was pretty decent apart from the steamed bammy, which was more like bammy porridge! We all had Cray Fish soup which was actually a combination soup of craw fish, conch and bussu (a small river snail) with more cray fish to distinguish it. We also had some curried goat and roti and some jerked chicken.

On Saturday, it was off to the beach! This time, we opted for Winifred's instead of Frenchman's Cove, even though we swung by Brian's Bay as that was also an option. Winifred's Beach is one of the largest beaches in Portland even though it is only an arm length when compared to the 7 miles beach of Negril. It is located in the Fairy Hill district of Portland just below a housing scheme. But it will take a lot of patients, nerves of steel and possibly a good 4X4 vehicle to drive down to the beach, so I drove as far as I safely could, parked the car and we trekked down by foot through the short-cut. This was the first time I have been to Winifred's Beach in almost four years. It was just as lovely as it was when I last visited, nice expanse of white sand and inviting turquoise water glistening in the sun. The only difference was that once I entered the water I noticed that a great portion of the beach was rather stony. Hopefully, the authorities will initiate a cleanup of this lovely beach and fix that damn road down to the beach! We eventually found a spot with little or no stones and soaked up some of that nice Caribbean Sea sun and sea. but for some reason though, that beach seamed pretty salty, yeah I know the sea is salty, but this is one was double sized! After swimming we replenished our bodies with a cup of Chicken Foot Soup and boiled corn. We again linked up at a little lounge and bar where we chatted, drank liquor and played dominoes until about four in the morning before heading home and passing out.

Me eating boiled corn

On Sunday, it was time to head back to the city and to leave the beautiful mix of lush green and turquoise behind, and say good bye to a wonderful weekend. How was your weekend? Yeah I know, I just had to ask!

Sawed in Half,Weekend Recap (Not Necessarily in that Order)

I was going to blog about the increase in taxes, but I don't want to start off your week on a sad note. So I think I'll leave that till Tuesday. How was your weekend? Great I hope! Mine was kinda busy, went to the airport on Saturday to pick up my parents who are visiting for the first time after migrating to the US two years ago! Boy, were they glad to feel the nice warm Caribbean climate and see the brilliant sunshine. There faces were almost as bright as the sunshine itself! I quickly dropped them off at my apartment and I was off to work by 4:00 pm,... sad eh. After reaching home at midnight, I had to get up by 6:30 am Sunday to get ready to head to Port Antonio! Why so early? Well if you have been to Portland in the past months you wouldn't need to ask! That damn road bad... well, that's a lie... there is no damn road to ratid! A two and a half hour journey now lasts almost four hours! Well, I guess it's not too bad as the road isn't just in its usual deplorable state but it is in the process of being upgraded to a major highway, the final leg of the North Coast Highway. Cyaan wait fi it done star, cause mi going deh deh every week! Anyway after driving through that pathway to Portland I had to plow my way back with the Stunnermobile to get to work by 4:00 pm once again... Jah know, mi tyad [tired], can't wait to go home. But, alas, I will have to endure the treacherous route once again when I go back to pick them up, grrr!

As I said in the beginning of my post, I have to start your week off right. Although this "work week jump start" might freak you out, I'm sure you will enjoy it! Check out this video...

Carnival Weekend... Last Chance for 2K8!

So I saw highlights of last weekend's Beach Jouvert and let me tell you I'm green with envy!!! It looked like it was wild, wild, wild!!! Hot sexy girls, scantily clad, all wet with paint, wining, gyrating and drunk! This year, it seemed they even had on less clothes as there were a couple of girls that were topless, the only thing covering their voluptuous breasts was the paint! Yes, they were wearing only paint and short shorts! It seemed I missed out on a lot of eye-popping fun.

Tonight, as in Friday night is street Jouvert, but I doubt I will make it as my coworker hasn't called to let me know if we making a flex and then Saturday is some water war party. I am working tomorrow night, but I might just make a run since it is close to my office, that should be fun, but I don't think I'll be carrying the camera. You know water and electronics nuh guh well together. But I would love to go and take some photos though. Now, Sunday is the finale, the big day, the road march! I do plan to be there as I want to get some great photos this year. Maybe I can compile a CD with my carnival photos, let's see, "Stunning Carnival 2008" or "Carnival 2008 Stunner Style", hmm...

Well, let's hope that this weekend will turn out fine and no rain falls, as we have been having regular showers these days. So that's the weekend plan. What will you be up to?

Here is a likkle something for you:

Recently, this Jamaican won the 10 million special lottery for a dollar. As soon as the office of the Lottery Corporation was open on the following day, he was there to collect his winnings.

Graciously, he presented his winning ticket to the clerk and in his best English uttered his request 'Me cum fi collect the 10 millian dallars, si me ticket ya'.

After reviewing and checking the ticket with his manager, the clerk returned and requested on how he would like his payments. The Jamaican replied, 'Mi wan all a de money now'.

'Unfortunately, Sir' the nervous clerk responded, 'The procedures are that we can only give you one million now and the balance equally over the next 20 years'.

Furious and agitated, the Jamaican asked for the manager, who re-iterated 'Sir, my assistant is correct, it is the regulation of the corporation that we initially pay you one million dollars now with the balance paid to you equally over the next 20 years'.

Outraged, the Jamaican slammed his hand on the desk and shouted in anger, 'Oonu tek me fi idiat, me wan all a de money now or oonu gi me bak me dallar!!'

Weekend Recap and Alcohol

Arrgggh! Another boring weekend. Yep, you guessed it, I didn't go to any of the Carnival events this weekend and my camera is devoid of any hot party pictures. My coworker who I was supposed to link up wit for the party canceled as he had some assignment to hand in at his class the following day. I totally forgot that UWI Ring Road was Saturday and not Sunday and that the Sunday was the beach day! Dufus!!! [Stunner hits himself in the back of the head!] So the entire weekend was boring, no Mass Camp Friday night, no UWI Carnival party Friday night, no photos of the UWI Ring Road Carnival, and since I had work on Sunday evening, no beach trip. I basically spend my weekend at work and working on a website that I have been building for someone, which accounts for my absence from my blogs. Given the dismal outcome of this past weekend, I am hoping next weekend will be better and that I will actually get to have some fun!

On a more 'spirited' note, I have expanded my alcohol collection once again thanks to the very generous Magna cheques that I have received over the past few months. Having a Magna card and a Scotia Magna credit card does pay off! I have been receiving these checks ever since I received my Magna card and that increased when I got my credit card. I have been using them to buy various things at Magna participating stores, however I have decided to use these cheques to treat myself, and this year it I will treat myself by expanding my liquor collection. The first check I used to buy myself a bottle of Punche de Kuba and a bottle of Coconut Rum. However today, I used my other cheque to buy myself of Baileys Irish Cream, to satisfy the Irish in me. But what is so special about this purchase, is that they has a special package that came with 2 free Baileys Irish Cream glasses, for the same price as an ordinary bottle! So now I have not only the Irish Cream, but specialized glasses from which to drink it. If you don't have a Magna card yet then I suggest you go get one!!!

My spirits collection is not much so far, hmm, let's see, I have: a bottle of Appleton Rum, White Rum, Coconut Rum, Smirnoff Vodka, Tia Maria, Punche de Kuba and now my Bailey's Irish Cream. So what's next? Well with the rest of the Magna checks I'm due this year I want to get a Creme de Cocoa and Creme de Banana. So if you're in the area, you can stop by at the Stunner's Lair for a drink or two.

Hectic Weekend at River Bottom

I had a pretty hectic and eventful weekend which took me as far as Montego Bay. On Friday I drove the south coast to Montego Bay as I had to make a pickup and then it was off to Montego Bay, but I drove through New Market which only took about an hour and a half, compared to the almost 3 hours if I drove the Negril route. The road was winding, but it was good! I don't mind the winding road as it adds some thrill to the driving, shotting it while hugging the corners over the hills and valleys without the fear of potholes. I attended a little party in Montego Bay and by the next day it was time to head back, however, even though I decided to drive back the New Market Route, I somehow took a wrong turn and ended up on some serious country road! Lost nuh ratid! But after driving on roads barely wide enough for my car, roads with craters and precipice on one side, over hills and valleys and through no ends of green bush and stopping to ask directions of trustworthy looking persons (old people), I finally made it to Santa Cruz, where I attended another little party. Then it was time for the long night drive back to Kingston.

On Sunday night I went to watch the talked about and always booked play, River Bottom. I have been trying to get tickets to watch this play for some time, but was told it was sold out every time. However I managed to get ticket for the 8:00pm show on Sunday from about Tuesday. Although the tickets cost $1000 per person, it was worth the money, as it had all the patrons laughing from the start to the finish. The comedy's cast boast some of Jamaica's biggest names in theatre including Oliver Samuels and Glen Campbell and is written by the gifted Trevor Brown. The setting of the comedy River Bottom is based on a fictional poor deep rural community (which fits in quite well with my adventure the previous day) called River bottom with no running water or electricity, except for one resident who is their Member of Parliament (MP), religious leader, so-called healer and prophet called Cappo, played by Oliver Samuels. I would tell you more about the play, but that would just spoil the fun for you. So if you haven't seen it as yet than you should! River Bottom guarantees a bellyfull of almost nonstop laughter and never a dull moment. It is playing at the Centre Stage Theatre in New Kingston.

Party Weekend

Ashe' in performance.

The weekend didn't quite turn out as I had wanted, but it wasn't bad though. As I mentioned in my last post, I wanted to attend two parties for the weekend, but I managed to only attend one. I wanted to go to my company's staff party and then head to Yesterday to get my groove on, but it seems age got the better of me (or so I think).

I did go to the company's staff party which wasn't too bad despite the late start. The food wasn't impressive both in taste and in quantity, but there was enough liquor to go around. But being a responsible driver and person, Stunner did not over indulge. The entertainment lineup was what is was supposed to be, entertaining. The MC for the evening was Elva, known for her antics on Full House Fridays on Fame FM and anyone who knows of Elva certainly knows she can a keep a crown lively! Ashe' started off the evening of a lively note and got the crowd warmed up. They were followed by other performances including the winners of All Together Sing (A high school choir competition) and Prodigal. The performances ended on a high note with the guest performer, the real big man, Professor Nuts, who kept the audience laughing during his entire performance and encore. When that was over, at about 12:30 am, it was over to Renaissance, who commanded the dance floor and the real party started! They kept the music juggling and the people on the dance floor moving to the beat until the wee hours of the morning when I left at about 3:30 am. By that time Yesterday was out of the picture!

Now on to a matter that grieved my spirit! I saw one of my ex at the party and damn she was looking hot nuh ten fyah side! However, this is the same girl that when we were together never took the time out to look hot! I mean she didn't look shabby at the time, but she never put out that extra effort to stop a man in his tracks. But last night she certainly did look stunning nuh ratid! Dem things deh just mek man !&^@#(@?*%!! cross! I man didn't overreact, just played it cool with a "Hi, how are you, short convo"... it's a good thing I was looking like a Stunner myself, else yuh know mi would feel bad nuh ratid! But we all get mature and change as we get older in life, and she certainly has changed for the better, I guess. Good for her, I won't hate.

Overall, I did enjoy myself partying with my coworkers, meeting up with some who I only speak to on the phone from all over the island during my duties at work and shaking a leg or two to some good selections. Oh, and as you may have guessed by now, I didn't win the $25,000 Gate prize... as expected. The worst part of the weekend is having to get up with a splitting headache three and a half hours later, to drag my tired ass of to work. &@##%@*!^! Oh well, such is the life of a struggling young man, nothing an extra strength Exedrin and two extra spoon of Blue Mountain coffee kinda fixed!

Tis the Season of Parties!

The Christmas season is upon us once again, the time of year many storm the shopping malls, make generous donations, give gifts to the special people in their lives while some approach it from a religious point of view as the time the celebrate the birth of Christ. However, there is one more thing that is characterize this time of the year, it is the season of parties!

At this time of the year in Jamaica there is an overwhelming number of parties to pick and choose from! I was listening to Zip 10 FM while driving and it seems there were more ads for parties than music! Among this season's lineup of parties and events are the big name all inclusive parties, Special Delivery and French Connections as well as the heavy weight stage shows, Welcome to Jamrock and Sting! For a lineup of the events for this season you can visit party sites like watever.com or events.in876.com.

I doubt I'll be doing a lot of partying, money kinda tight right now and I man getting old! But I hope to go to my favorite party, Yesterday, on December 22. Yeah, nothing like some fabulous selections 90's Dancehall music permeating the night air and hot women wining their waistlines! Considering that I have never been to one of those all-inclusive parties, I would love to attend one this year, but the price tag is scaring my pocket!

So what are your party plans? Which events will you be attending?

Random Post I Can't Believe I Ate That?

For some strange reason I had something to post today and I just can't get it together. Maybe it will come to me tomorrow or over the weekend. My sinus is giving me hell, draining in the back of my throat. Maybe it's causing a brain drain too, cause I just nuh know what I was going to post. Or maybe it's old age catching up with me!

It's another weekend, and I actually have one day off this weekend! Yeeaahhhh! Yes I know I sound a bit over excited for just one day, but when you work a shift job and you hardly get a weekend off, getting even one day is cause for a celebration! So you can just imagine how I behave when I actually get the entire weekend off! Head nuh good! I would probably end up at Ward 21 if I get an entire holiday weekend off! So what do I have planned for this special day? Well nothing much. I need to get the phone line extended to the other corner of my tiny living room so I can do a little redecoration. So I'm having it done tomorrow and commence the redecoration as soon as it is done. Then it will be off to the barber to cut off my locks and look decent...well it's mainly to hide these damn premature gray hairs in my head! Damn them! Arrggh!

Well, they say you must try something new, explore what life has to offer. So Stunner decided to do exactly that. No I didn't drive a formula four racing car nor jump off the cliff at Rick's Cafe. I ate something I never ate before or thought I would never have the guts to eat.... No nuh dat, unnuh mind too dyam corrupt! Anyway as I was saying, before I was rudely...and I stress rudely...interrupted, I has Octopus! Yes, I actually ate one of the little baby sized ones. I was at a buffet and they had what seemed to be some fried ones, so being the adventurous little Stunner that I am I threw one in my plate. I must admit it didn't look all that gross as I thought it would be, so I tried it. So I sat down at the table looked at it, said a little prayer, breathed deeply and sunk in my fork. I closed my eyes and opened my mouth and in it went! How can I describe it? I'll say it's like nothing I have ever had, somewhat rubbery in texture, but soft enough to chew and I honestly don't know how to describe the taste, but it was seafood. I figure the sauce and seasoning masked the true taste, although I could taste a unique taste of the octopus meat. At one point I almost decided to spit it out when I remembered what I was eating. Hmmm, maybe I'm now ready for Survivor or fear Factor! What do you think? Hey question for you all... What is the weirdest thing you have even eaten?

Oh my, I didn't do too bad for someone who forgot what to post....or maybe that octopus thing was what I had intended to post...hmmmm. Anyway, it's another weekend so enjoy yourselves.
