Ninja Assassin

Last night I braved the cold of the New York winter, the snow and ice, the bone chilling winds to make my way to the Cinema to watch Ninja Assassin. The trek in the inhospitable weather was certainly worth it as the action in the movie certainly warmed up my chilled blood! If you are into almost non-stop action, fast pace martial arts, weapon wielding and blood splattering with dismembered limbs, then this is the movie for you!

The movie spits action from the very beginning, there was almost no slowing down in this movie. Even the flashbacks that develop the story light was somewhat intriguing as it set the pace and the storyline for the movie. The movie stars, Korean entertainer/actor Rain (Jeong Ji-hoon) who plays Raizo, who is a Ninja Assassin who was trained from childhood by a secret Ninja clan and is being pursued by his clan for turning his back on them. The movie co-stars Naomie Harris, an English actress of Jamaican descent, who plays Mika an Europol investigator who becomes marked for death due to her investigations into the secret assassin organization. But I will say no more, you need to watch the movie.

Overall the movie was decent, the action was almost none-stop fast paced fighting and slicing. I recommend this one for the action and weapon based martial arts fans out there! I give it a Stunner Rating of 4 out of 5 as I basically got what I went there to see! Now I need to go give Avatar a watch to see how good it is and what the hype is all about.

Final Destination?

For all those who watched any of the Final Destination sequels you will know why I find a story I recently read in The Gleaner website bit of news all so strange! For those who didn't watch the original or the very predictable sequels, here is the gist of the movies. A group of people consisting of friends and complete strangers miss a horrific death due to the premonition of one of the members. However shortly after "death" comes for each and every one of them one by one no matter how hard they try to avoid it.

Hey speaking of Final Destination, I watched Final Destination IV 3D, I know it was crap, but I just wanted to see the 3D effects. I won't even give a review of that movie. All I'll say the very first Final Destination was absolutely great and they should have just stopped there.

Alas I digressed. Well now that you get the gist of what I am talking about, you will understand why I found this story in The Gleaner very surprising!

Twice unlucky - Cyclist dies after being hit by motor cars

Published: Monday | August 31, 2009

A pedal cyclist died at the Falmouth Hospital from injuries he sustained after being hit by two motor cars along the Falmouth main road in Trelawny on Saturday.

He has been identified as 52-year-old George Sinclair of Hague in the parish.

Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that about 7:35 p.m, Sinclair was riding his bicycle along the Falmouth main road in the vicinity of Rock Bridge when he was hit by a Toyota Camry motor car travelling in the opposite direction. The driver of the car exited the vehicle and was assisting the injured man out of the road when he was hit by a second Toyota Camry motor car that was heading towards Falmouth. Sinclair was taken to the Falmouth Hospital where he died while being treated.

Weird isn't it? Can you imagine being hit at the same spot, twice in almost the same instant in time and by the same make and model car! That's some real life Final Destination stuff there!

Orphan, The Ugly Truth

Hi there my readers... well that is if I still have readers, since I haven't posted or visited much blogs lately. Things haven't been all that hectic, but it seems the time just goes by so quickly without me even knowing what I did or when the time went by. One of the few things I have been doing is watching a couple of movies at the cinema and of course I have to give you a run down of the two I watched so far.

The fist was The Ugly Truth, a battle of the sexes romance comedy staring Katherine Heigl who plays Abby Richter, a small network TV producer at the top of her game but not the same in her love life and Gerard Butler who plays Mike Butler who runs a off the wall programme about relationships on a late night cable station. Their worlds collide when they are pitched together to host a programme on Abby's network in a desperate bid to increase ratings. Mike takes on the challenge of helping Abby get her love life on track which leads to quite a few funny moments. The Ugly Truth, although predictable, was a decent romance comedy which is sure to give you a few laughs and won't let you feel bad about going to the Cinema. I give it a Stunner Rating of 3 out of 5.

Last night it was off to the cinema again, but this time it was to watch Orphan. Now this movie was pretty decent, the story line, the suspense and the ensuing terror was just enough to make it a movie worth watching. It started off slow, but I guess that slow start was needed to build up the story and the scenes to follow. The movie is about a couple, John and Kate (Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga)... no not the same ones from John & Kate Plus 8, these had only two children. However, they have been suffering from the loss of their third child who was a stillborn which has left Kate very fragile since the ordeal and it has been putting a strain on their marriage. In ad effort to move on with her life, save her marriage and appease her young daughter who wants a sister, Kate decides to adopt a daughter from the local orphanage. They find themselves drawn to a very articulate orphan named Esther (Isabelle Fuhrman), who they decide to adopt. However, they certainly were not prepared for what Esther had to offer and the life threatening trouble that was to follow, because there's definitely something wrong with Esther. If you want to go watch a movie with great suspense mixed with terror and a decent plot, then this is definitely the movie to go watch. I recommend this movie for the cinema money! I give it a Stunner Rating of 4 out of 5!

I guess there are a few movies still out there worth going to the cinema to watch.

Revenge of the Fallen

I have been anticipating Transformers Revenge of the Fallen for some time now. However I had delayed going to the movies to watch it as I kept hearing horror stories of the cinema being filled to capacity, especially for this movie. My first attempt at watching this movie was last week Monday at the two for one late movie special. However, this was a total failure as we arrived at the cinema late, about 8:10pm, which is in fact late for a two for one special day and as such the movie was sold out and also parking was non-existent. So I had to make a return to Carib 5 on Friday, to watch the movie, and even this was almost a total failure as the only available seats when I arrived was the box seats. After escaping the heat of my apartment, to watch this movie, I was not prepared to return to the heat again so quickly and opted to pay the extra for the box seats.

The movie started off on a funny note with the very funny conversations and behaviour of Sam and his comedic family members. However, the comedy was soon joined by action, action and more action. If you wanted to watch a movie that had a lot of metallic, robotic action mixed with merciless bullets firing from big guns, then this was the movie! I will agree with the critiques that said the story line was a bit weak, but the action throughout the movie made up for the not so strong story. As I said before, if you, like me, went to this movie with action on your mind, then you would enjoy this action packed movie mixed with the spices of comedy.

I did have a small feeling of wanting something more at the end of the movie, a little more fighting and metal crunching between Optimus Prime and Megatron and especially when Optimus fought with The Fallen. That would have made the movie a full dose of action for me. Nevertheless, when you see a Jamaican crowd clap at the end of a movie when it has been showing for over two weeks now, you know it is good! So to me it was a good movie overall, and definitely one that can be watched at the cinema, especially if Transformers was your cartoon of choice is your youthful days. I will give it a Stunner Rating of 4 out of 5.

Last week I went to watch The Taking of Pelhan 123. From the preview it looked like an OK movie, something one could watch at the theater, and of course it had Denzel Washington, so hit has to be a decent movie. An actor of the caliber of Denzel is at the least a guarantee that the movie would be decent, right?

The movie actually turned out better than I thought and kept me entertained from the begining to the end. The movie had a nice mixture of action, a decent and a lot of humour, despite the seriousness of the situation. Both John Travolta and Denzel Washington delivered a good performance and played their characters well. Washington played the role of Walter Garber, a NYC subway dispatcher which was recently demoted do to allegations of corruption. Travolta assumed the character of Ryder, a bad ass, wise cracking, train hijacker with a mission and some serious personality issues. The movie also had a good cast of supporting actors which included James Galdolfini of the Sopranos. The only issue I have with the movie is how it ended, it left me a bit disappointed as I was looking for something more that what it delivered. Of course I won't tell you much about the movie, you need to go watch it!

Overall, The Taking of Pelhan 123 was a great movie, and I would recommend it, I give it a Stunner rating of 4 out of 5.

Star Trek Review and Photos Galore!

So on Tuesday evening I decided to head back to Carib 5, but this time to check out the next movie on my summer blockbuster list, Star Trek. I didn't to see the customary previews or even the very beginning of the movie due to unforeseen circumstances, but I didn't miss much, just about 2 minutes the most.

Star Trek can be described as a good science fiction movie, mixed with a decent serving of action and comedy. The movie wasn't totally as I expected as I still wanted some more action. Nevertheless, it proved to be a good movie that kept my interest right through. It was a pleasure to see the movie on the big screen as that allowed me to fully appreciate the space scenes, which would be greatly under-represented by my 29 inch television screen. Of course, my favorite character was Spock (Zachary Quinto), but Captain Kirk played by Chris Pine, was a very likable character. And of course Zoe Saldana was looking fine as Ahura! I didn't regret spending the extra few dollars to see Star Trek at the theater, had some actions scene, a few laughs and a OK story line. I think I'll give Star Trek a Stunner rating of 4 out of 5.

I said before that Terminator Salvation was on my list, but based on the reviews I have been hearing, I am having second thoughts about this movie. Several persons have expressed disapointment in this latest Terminator movie, so I might just sit out this one and wait for the boo... the DVD. But Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is still on the list, and I can't wait for the opening date on the 24th of this month! Oh yes, a new trailer is out, maaadddd!

On another note, as mentioned in my previous post, I took quite a few photos on my first Flickr group trip and I have started to post them on My World My Lens. Hoverer, there is more, I am also posting the photos on Flickr, which allows me to post more than one photo for the same day! So you can check out my photostream at http://www.flickr.com/photos/stunnerj/.

Another weekend has dawned upon us... Wow that was quick! I doubt this weekend will be as fun filled and event packed as last weekend, but I still hope to have some fun or at least get in a few new photos. Anyway, as you can see time is flying by in a great hurry, so enjoy your weekend and make the best of it.

X-Men Origins Review

One down, three to go! Yes I have watched the first on a list of what I think are theater worthy movies so far. I went to watch X-Men Origins Wolverine, on Tuesday night. It was great break from the small screen bootlegs... well that is if I watched bootlegs... Shh! Nuh seh nuttin!

The movie started off a little slow, but I guess that what happens when you are building a story and setting the stage for the rest of the movie. The movie picked up a little after the first quarter and the action kicked in. It had a few decent action scenes, and I guess having the movie focused on mostly one character made the movie easier to follow. This made the movie a little better than the previous X-Men sequel which was mostly a mix of different characters on exhibition with their special powers all squeezing in to a ninety minutes slot.

As usual Hugh Jackman, played the part of Wolverine well and did his job to motivate me to head back to the gym and work at achieving that ripped dream body I want. Thank you Hugh, for setting me back a few thousand dollars, that I don't have, for gym fee! The supporting actors did their part two including Wolverine's archenemy Victor Creed aka Sabretooth, played by Liev Schreiber. I was expecting a little more from the movie, but overall it was a decent move and was worth the trip and money to watch it at the theater. I didn't feel as if i wasted my money, even though I expected more, so i give it an average Stunner rating of 3 stars out of 5.

As I said before, I still have three more theater movies to watch. Next is Star Trek which is now in the theaters and the upcoming movies Terminator Salvation and Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. The trailers look great and the review for Star Trek has been good so far, so I am hoping to at least get a satisfied feeling forking out my theater money. It has been a long time since I have seen so many theater worthy movies running in such close succession. See you at the movies!

Dark Knight

So after seeing the trailers that flooded the TV screens and the Internet, reading the countless comments and reviews, I decided I wanted to go to the movies to watch the much hyped Dark Knight. I had great expectations going to see this movie, after all the trailers were fast pace, heart pumping and action packed. And the reviews were enticing, not to mention the huge turnout at the box office, this movie must be the best thing since Spiderman!

So on Saturday I went to the Cinema in the Cross County Shopping Center to watch this most touted summer block buster. Well, after watching the movie, I was speechless, not because the movie was so great, but because I don't really know how to describe the movie. First of all it didn't live up to my expectations, based on how the media, trailers and reviews hyped it up to be. I expected more action scenes and some kick-ass fighting scenes, but that was not fulfilled. The overall story line was good, but the only problem I had was the extremely minor role Two-Face played in the movie. The movie wasn't boring, yet it wasn't exhilarating, as it was just enough to keep you interested from the beginning to the end.

The late Heath Ledger, as said by many, did put on a good performance as the Joker. It was kinda weird watching a new release with a dead actor though. This new interpretation of the Joker was definitely different from what I was used to! He was pretty darn demented and evil, but a very clever mastermind, who brought Gotham to its knees.

Overall, I think it was a pretty decent movie. Even though it did not live up to my expectations, I didn't feel like it was a waste of money to watch it at the cinema. If you wanted to go to the Cinema to watch it, you should go as it's not a bad movie and of course i am not a professional movie critic. I give it a Stunner rating of 3.5 out of 5, partially due to it's failure to live up to my expectations.

Wanted!!!

After watching the flashy previews and trailers and after going to palacamusement.com to see the local ratings I decided that I wanted to see the movie Wanted on the big screen. So on Saturday night the opportunity presented itself for e to go see if it was all hype or something that I really 'wanted' to see.

The movie started with some funny scenes and narration, but this did not drag on as the action didn't hesitate to jump in full force! If you wanted a definition of an action packed movie, then Wanted would be one of the illustrative definitions. If fast, racy, gun slinging, car chasing, stunt filled action is on your menu, then Wanted is certainly the movie to wet your appetite! The main characters James McAvoy (Neva know him till this movie) who played Wesley and Angelina Jolie (Fox) delivered some serious action and did the movie justice and then there is Morgan Freeman (Sloan), well what can I say it's Morgan Freeman you can't expect nothing less than the best. What would an action movie be without killer graphics? The graphics in this movie was totally awesome and blended well with the action this movie spewed.

Of course no movie is perfect and thus Wanted does have it's own faults. There are one or two scenes that just seem out of place with the movie and one particular scene that I just think pushed the limit of my imagination a bit to far. Of course you know I won't tell you the scenes as this will just spoil it for you. However, it did not spoil the movie for me as the action was good enough to keep me occupied. Overall Wanted was a pretty good movie, and certainly a gret movie if action is what you are into. I give it a Stunner rating of 4 out of 5.

The Forbidden Kingdom

On Monday night I went to see The Forbidden Kingdom at Carib 5. I haven't seen any movies of such that would grab me to go to the movies, however The Forbidden Kingdom did seem like a movie I could watch at the movies. After all, it had two of my favorite martial arts stars, Jakie Chan and Jet Li, so there must be at the least a few good parts! Well, it seemed it was not a bad call at all, as the movie was totally enjoyable.

Both jet Li and Jackie Chan threw in their usual impressive martial arts skills to entertain and and kept you glued to the screen. It fact, they had a really crazy fight scene between the two of them that would not only excite a martial arts junkie. But the movie was not all action as it was pleasantly punctuated with a nice amount of comedy to give you a few laughs. The story line was ok I guess, even though it is fictional and based on Japanese or Chinese folklore. But who really pays attention to story line when you want to see some kick-ass fighting?

As usual, I will not tell you what the details of the movie, as that would just spoil the fun. The Forbidden Kingdom is not a big block buster-like movie, but it will surely entertain you and won't make you feel like yo wasted your money. Based on what I went in expecting, as I was expecting just a decent movie, I give it a 4 out of 5.

Rush Hour Jam

OK, this movie was going to be a "watch on DVD movie", but due to the lack of interesting movies at the cinema and the fact that my date and I wanted to see a movie together, I decided that Rush Hour 3 would be the movie of choice. I don't normally think sequels are really worthy of cinema time and money when the reach part 3 (except for Lords of the Ring). I believe that some movies are just wonderful staying at part one and only. So I decided to watch it against my better judgement.

But I will have to say Rush Hour 3 did not disappoint me! Yes it was actually decent! It certainly had its fair share of laughs and had the entire theatre auditorium laughing and giggling from the start. Chris Tucker was his normal, crazy self from the beginning of the movie certainly kept command of the comical side of the movie. While, Jackie Chan's amazing fighting scenes kept the action pulsing throughout the movie, although I had hoped to see more from him. I will have to admit they make a good action comedy movie combination. I really enjoyed the movie as it did keep me laughing the majority of the time.

As usual I won't tell you anything about the movie, as I think you should experience it for yourselves and also because I hate when people chat out di movie before or while mi watching it! So I will end this post by saying that the movie was a pretty decent movie, and although I wasn't eager to go watch it, I did not regret going to watch it at the cinema. I give it a Stunner's Rating of 3.5 out of 5.

Transform!

So I finally went to the theater, to watch transformers the movie. As usual I don't go to watch a well anticipated movie in the first weeks of the movie's release, since I can't deal with the crowds and the sold out movies. So I opted to wait a little. I have to admit the movie was good, I enjoyed every moment of it, from the start to the finish. Transformers had a nice combination of comedy, romance and action which all mellowed in together to make a nice movie.

I was certainly not going to make this movie a 27" viewing, not just because of the hype about the movie or the attractive trailers, but because Transformers was my favorite childhood cartoon. I used to play transformers when I was little with my friends, and of course we all used to argue about who would be Optimus Prime. I even had a transformer toy that I played with until it disintegrated.

Although, I was hoping for a little more in the fight between Optimus Prime and Megatron, I still wasn't disappointed in the movie at all. They actually did the movie justice, else they would have to answer to me! Overall, Transformers was a great movie, and I am not the only one who shares that sentiment as this was the first movie I have ever watched at a theater that received an applause. I will give Transformers a Stunner's Rating of 4 out of 5. If you haven't watched it as yet, go see it, you won't be wasting your money.

Well I have nothing much more exciting planned for the weekend, as I, unfortunately, I will be working all weekend. So your duty is to have enough fun for me too. Enjoy your weekend! In the mean time here are some more pictures of my vacation.

Spiderman Returns...Again!

The Web swinger is back in the cinemas and so are the throngs of Spiderman Fans, almost 3o Million of them! I too was looking forward to the movie and the trailers I had seen had certainly contributed to my youthful enthusiasm! I had decided that this is not a bootleg watch at home movie (not that I bootleg movies and go home and watch them), but it was one deserving of the big screen money! However, I was not excited to the point where I would bomb rush the Carib 5 the first week much more the first day of the movie, oh no Stunner much more smarter than that. One of my coworkers wasn't so smart and gave in to his anticipation only to be disappointed when he arrived there all gleaming in anticipation only to hear that the movie has been sold out. So I patiently waited until week three of the movie, by that time the movie is still warm and I can get a decent middle row seat, even it I arrive close to the start of the movie.

I wasn't disappointed at all with the movie, I enjoyed every moment of of it! Maybe it's because I do not really go to the movies expecting too much, based on the hype surrounding the movie. I go to see the action, a little story line and a few laughs now and then and Spiderman 3 certainly delivered. In this third instalment of the Spiderman series, Spidey found himself with three villains, one of which came around and actually helped our webbed friend to defeat the other two. Although I kinda find it corny that Mary Jane ends up being the damsel in distress once again, I still didn't mind it at all as the action was still good. Overall I'm satisfied with the movie and didn't regret spending the money for two tickets. Yes two tickets! What do you expect, the Stunner go to a movie by himself? Please! You may have noticed that I haven't given you much of a summary of the movie, well that's because, you should go watch it! [Stunner's Rating: 4 out of 5].

I have noticed something about the releases this summer and I wonder if you have noticed. What is it? Well Spiderman 3, Shrek The Third, 28 Weeks Later, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, Hostel Part II, Ocean's Thirteen and Die Hard 4....yes Die Hard 4! What the hell is this Summer of Sequels? Is it that Hollywood is lacking in originality, the are just riding on the success of the original movies or are they just getting plain lazy? Well whatever the reason, we certainly have a lot of following up to do with all these sequels being released this summer! Enjoy yourselves at the movies this summer, part II, part III, part...

Recap Time

Forgive me fellow bloggers, it has been a week since my last post...heh, heh, heh, sounds almost like a Catholic confession. I know I have been scarce for some time now, yes the pressures of school and work are getting the better of me. I hardly have time to scratch my head and when I do get time I am not really in the mood to blog, I feel so tired and brain dead.

The Hell...I mean...School Scene
I had my mid-semester exam last Thursday, I' m surprised that I actually felt like I pass the exam with a decent grade. I hope my feelings become a reality! Why am I so surprised? Well this is the subject I feel the 'dunces', if there is such a word. Up to two days before this exam I had not a clue of what I was doing or how to approach a problem. It is surprising what one can learn in two days when ones ass is under fire! Now I just need to finish up some assignments and start beating it for finals. Final exams, are just three weeks away, so I have to get some serious work done! Just a couple assignments, exams and major project stands between me and freedom!

300
I finally took some time out to go see the movie 300. I must say I feel satisfied spending the money for the movie tickets and refreshments! The movie was great! Despite the slow start, it certainly picked up and gave a raw, action-filled, blood-letting, limb-severing performance! I couldn't afford to watch a movie like this on a bootleg CD (not saying I watch bootleg CDs) on my small screen! A movie like this is best seen on a large cinema screen with surround sound and a nice female cringing on your arm! On another note those Spartans motivate me to head to the gym, I want to look like them! If yuh nuh watch it yet yuh missing something! [Stunner's Rating: 4.5 out of 5]

Oh Snap!
I have been snapping away with my camera and I have consistent in posting photos to my photoblog, and have posted almost 30 photographs so far. I hope to get a tripod too so I can take better photos in low light. You all can check it out and see what my camera and I have been up to. I have also noticed that another photographer by the name of Scratchie has created his photoblog and has been posting some great pictures too.

Anyway, this is just a quick line, can't tarry too long I have some blogs to read!
