The Jamaican Link-up!

La Kabana was the place to be last nigh if you were a Jamaican Blogger. Liquor, finger food and nuff chatting and laughing. I finally got to meet some of the person's behind the blogs last night. Mad Bull, Scratchie, Dr. D, Shotta M and Cali J. Didn't get to meet Owen, I heard he had to leave early and hence, left before I arrived. I didn't get to meet Angry Dog either, I heard he had an emergency to deal with...(won't ask what that was). Mi a bun Fyahh fi Angry Dog since he was the first one to request a link-up!

You may have noticed that there are no females in the picture...nor have I made mention any thus far. I have always been proud to say that Jamaican women are the best because they stand by their men...well last night I had to eat my words and lapped my tail. We were abandoned by our female bloggers...WHHYYY?????

Unlike Dr. D, I didn't know anybody personally until I got to La Kabana. It was a good thing that everyone was there, all I could do is to look for a bunch of people by the bar. Overall, the night was a good night. Decent link-up wid nuff vibes...(despite the women abandoning us). It was good to meet some of my fellow bloggers, maybe we can do this again sometime.

I can't post much more at the moment because I'm heading to Portland. I will read and comment on your blogs when I come back. I will try to get some good pictures to share with you. Off to Portie!!!

I don't have much to post today. As usual I'm at work and will be working over the long weekend. So not much parting for me...but I know you will be parting your clothes off. So I will not be writing anything on my blog until after the long weekend, that is, until Tuesday. Yes, I could not believe it myself! But it's true...no I'm not lying this it true! Mr. "Timeless" Vybz Kartel has tied the knot. Vybz Kartel a.k.a. Adidjah Plamer tied the knot today in a private ceremony with his lover of four years Stacey Elliot. In an exclusive interview with YardFlex.com he explained that he met her at a stage show in Brooklyn New York back in 2001 and that he knew she was special from the moment they met. He confessed that he popped the question just a week ago. The hardcore Jamaican dancehall DJ said, " I never got cold feet, I woke up this morning looking forward to getting married, I am getting older, I am changing my image. DJ Reneto?
That is the question, Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams seems to be trying out for a new career. It seems that Mr. Adams has been considering this career move ever since his controversial debut performance at Sting 2004, where he sampled a couple of lines after accepting a gun from controversial DJ, Ninja Man. Adams now cleared of all charges related to the much locally publicized Krawl Trial must have been in a jubilant mood when he decided to cut a single. He has recorded a single on the Carbine rhythm which has been creating quite a stir in Jamaica. The single is titled "To Protect and Serve". DJ Adams' song was recorded about five days before his first court appearance [read the article here]. Seems as if he was not confident he would win the case, so him decide fi do a Jah Cure thing...becoume a big artise in prison. I heard the song earlier today thought it was just some new artiste trying a thing. A couple of my coworkers were saying that it was Adams, so this article confirms it...Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams is now a DJ. Go deh DJ Rene...the DJ to protect and serve.

The Saint "Model" Figure.

Let me clear the air first of all. I don't have anything against slim women. I appreciate women in their varied sizes, all though I do have a preference for curvey full bodied women. However, Saint International, a local modeling agency has taken things too far! It seems the criteria for becoming a Saint model is to me mawga (extremely skinny) or anorexic. I watched their scouting TV show, CVM Faces of Summer, and could not believe my eyes! These girls were mere skin and bones. The worst thing is not that some of these girls are naturally skinny, but quite a few of them must be starving themselves to attain this so-called figure. The picture on the left is a picture of one on their models.

The next thing that pisses me off is the fact that the majority if not all of the models used to advertise clothing are extremely thin. The fact is the majority of people in the real world are not skin and bones but average sized people with some meat on their bodies. So why do theses people use the anorexic minority to advertise and model their clothes? I'm sorry but there is nothing sexier than a curvey woman, with thick thighs, nice breasts and a big round booty! And there are a lot of girls who are slim but still look good and that I find very sexy! You can be slim and look good, but it doesn't look good when they reach the anorexic "model" look!

It seems no one noticed that I finally found out how to add a picture to my banner. Well just to point it out, I have modified the banner of Stunner's Afflictions. I hope you all like the picture. As I promised here is another comic.

Party Weekend

What a weekend! I actually went out and partied this weekend. It had been such a long time since I got the chance to go out and enjoyed myself. Friday night I went to Yesterday, an I did have fun. It wasn't as good as the one that I went to some time ago [refresh your memory]. But nevertheless, I had myself some fun. Liquor flowed as this was included in the ticket price, and the music selection wasn't too bad. It had a couple of people wining and bubbling to the hit songs of the early 90's as well as the intermittent vocal gun salutes to the favorites. I got there at about 1:15am and partied until about 4:00 am, by that time I had my fill, not used to the long partying anymore.

But it didn't end there. Saturday night was my company's end of year party. You know who had to be there! Free food, free liquor, gift for being early, a chance to win the gate prize in the thousands and the opportunity to mingle with the hotties is the company! I had to be there....even though I had work at 12:00 midnight. Anyway I arrived at about 7:15 and I got my early gift! Unfortuneately, I didn't win any of the gate prizes, 3 other people got my money...damn it! I Sampled some whole heap a food. I ate for 3! But I had to, because any good drinker knows you can't drink liquor on an empty stomach. And drink I did! Well not too much, just about 4 heavily laced mixed drinks. But just when the dancing began, you know who had to leave for work. Next year I'll ensure I won't have work! But overall, I enjoyed myself, got to hangout with coworkers outside of the work environment, got to meet coworkers that I only talk to on the phone but never knew how they looked and of course I got to meet some hotties!

I hope you all got a chance to enjoy your weekend. Now I feel like I'm in the mood for an adventure trip. I am thinking about going to Chukka Cove adventures. I'll let you know how that goes.

So It's Monday morning and the beginning of the most hectic week of the year. Yes the week of mad shopping and intolerable congestion on the roads of Kingston...well not for me, I'll be staying clear of the hustle and bustle as much as possible. RnR!!!

At last the pressure is off for a couple of weeks! No school after work, no studying, no projects, no assignments...NO SCHOOL! I felt so free after Wednesday, I can just imagine how I will feel after the whole course is finished.

The exam on Wednesday wasn't too bad...much better than the math exam. I didn't get to finish all the questions. However, I did 3 complete questions and started the 4th, so it wasn't too bad. I also have a good course-work for this subject. I definitely felt much better after doing this exam than how I felt after the math. Hopefully, I pass the math though...(sigh).

So I was thinking, "What am I going to do with the time I have?" Well I have a few things in mind:

1. PARTY!!!
2. Finish the new website.
3. Head to Portland and soak up some sun and salt water on the beach and nyam (eat) some Boston Jerk Pork.
4. Sleep.
5. Work out at the gym more often.
6. Blog more.
7. PARTY!!!!...oh I said that before, didn't I?

Yep that's basically the plan for the next 2 weeks or so. I will be on a one week vacation from work just after boxing day, so I will use that time to enjoy myself and relax a bit. I can just see myself sippin' on a glass of ice cold lemonade (well limeade actually).

The beach has been on my mind of late and hence the picture on the post. I took this picture in Ocho Rios earlier this year. I can almost smell the sea and hear the gentle waves caressing the white sand beaches as the bright sunlight reflects of the crystalline blue waters of the Caribbean sea. Miss Jamaica World 2005

Congratulations Karelle Griffith, Miss Jamaica World 2005 on your accomplishment! Karelle was placed among the top 15 selected from the selected 101 beautiful women in the 2005 Miss World competition.

This is also a major accomplishment for black women who choose to wear their hair natural. It is the first I'm seeing a dark skinned, (kinky) natural hair girl win the Miss Jamaica World Competition. It has been, mostly, the slim, brown skinned, long hair, small ass women that get the crown. I guess the judges and my fellow Jamaicans are finally getting the picture that black is beautiful. Yes it seems we are finally seeing that a woman with curves, round ass, dark skin and natural afro hair is beautiful. Now it's up the the rest of the world, who worship the white, skinny, no ass, European figure to see the light.Well she did not get any of the major prizes, but being placed in the top 15 is a good thing. And Jamaica can be proud of that

Firestream

I received a link to a website, Firestream. This site streams live feed from several stations including TVJ, CVM and Hype TV. So if you want to keep in touch with Jamaican news, programmes and entertainment this website is for you. The streams seem to work only for Internet explorer though. I think this is a good idea, now I can watch the news at work or watch some music videos on Hype TV in the nights when I'm on the night-shift.

Exam Still On My Mind

I am still under the stress of exams. I have one more exam to do on Wednesday. And as usual I can't get myself to study, what the hell is wrong with me? Is it just me alone who can't buckle down and do some serious studying for the impending exams? I will be on a two day vacation as of tomorrow, I will use them to study for my exam. Hopefully I will do better on this one. My soul won't be at peace until I find out the results of the math course...well, until I find out if I passed. It's the first since 2n'd form and 6th form of high school that I am actually having such a problem with math. I was really weak in math until 3rd form, then I saw the light and I started to understand certain things, suffered a setback in sixth form and then recovered. It might just be a phenomenon that occurs every number of years. Hmmm...

Well people, won't be back until Wednesday after my exam or Thursday after the hangover. Likkle more.

2006 Honda Civic - My Car of The Year!

Yes finally the civic has been reinvented! This is now my new dream car. I never thought I would want a Civic over an Accord. But the 2006 Honda Civic has certainly sunk roots into my dreams.

It seems that I'm not the only one who is impressed with this new Civic. This car has been so impressive that it has claimed for itself the 2006 Motor Trend Award. The first time Honda has received this prestigious award. This is no ordinary feat as the magazine tested 28 newly designed models before honoring the Civic, the largest field of candidates the magazine had considered in the award's 57-year history. The Civic out ranked other models such as the Lexus GS, Mazda5 and the Mercedes-Benz CLS. You can read the CNN article here.

The 2006 Civic boasts a new radical design (view the sedan and Si coupe) that is truly a work of art and personifies what style is. Apart form being much more spacious it has an interior that will certainly keep you in your car a lot longer and a beautiful dashboard that you can't help staring at. But it is not just pretty looks! The new Civic has finally got a bigger engine, 1800cc in the regular model and a 2 litre engine and a 16-Valve DOHC i-VTEC, 197 horse power in the Si model.

Great going Honda! This is one car I definitely would love to own... (sigh) ...only if I had the money!

Mi Still Deh Bout!...The After-Math

Mi still deh bout! I know I have been away from the posting (thanks for the reminder Dr.D) or even reading my daily digest of blogs. But yes as you guessed it I have been under a lot of pressure. Well, I know I haven't been studying as hard or as much as I used to...or should. But I think I lack interest in what I am doing at school, but I just need that piece of paper so I can get a better job and improve my life somewhat.

Well, one exam is down. The after-Math soaks in. Engineering Mathematics! Damn it, that was a fast ball, lick mi clear. Stumps flying all over the place! The exam wasn't hard, but I just had to find some way to frigg it up. I went blank for the first hour and was in total disarray. Then by the time I got back on track time was on my heels. So I am praying for at least a pass...Please dear Lord, give me a pass, just a pass....please! So I'm just taking a break from the studying tonight after my traumatic ordeal this afternoon. Now I have one more exam, was scheduled for this Friday, but my fellow classmates were fortunate enough to get the date changed to next week Wednesday. Thank God! Hopefully I will do better on this one.

So this evening after cussing out myself I decided to do some more work on my website. Yep I am still in the process of finishing the site. This site will display my photographic side...or lack thereof. The pictures are all taken in Jamaica and hence the name of the site, "Scenes of Jamaica". Jamaica Bites Back!

On November 1, 2005 the Cayman Islands government imposed a visa restriction on the island of Jamaica. Jamaican residents who previously were allowed entry into the island freely would now have to apply for a Cayman visa if they wish to travel to that country. [see article] The Jamaican government did not seem to happy with this decision and threatened to do the same. Well it seems the Jamaican government did follow through on their word. Effective December 1, 2005 Cayman nationals will now require a visa to enter Jamaica. [see article]. I don't know if the Jamaican government has a good reason to impose this or if it's just out of retaliation. I'll leave you to decide. This might impact negatively on those Caymanians who wish to apply for a US visa, as they are required to do the interview at the US embassy here in Jamaica.

I have no problem with a country imposing visa restrictions. It is the right of any government to implement entry restrictions to protect its citizens. However, my problem with Cayman is not that they have imposed the visa requirement, but it is the process that is involved in acquiring this visa. Let me share some of these requirements with you:

1. A valid passport with at least six months,
2. A police record.
3. It is also beneficial for applicants to include original documentation of personal circumstances, such as bank statements, evidence of employment, or proof of assets.
4. Processing of the visa request takes approximately two weeks. The decision will be made in The Cayman Islands and notification will be sent through the office in Jamaica to the respective applicant.

Six months? What difference does it make whether I had it 2 days? What, it is more authentic at 6 months?
The latter three are the ones that pisses me off the most! Why the hell must I get a police record just to get a visa, I am not looking citizenship or a job in Cayman. No other country, that I know of, requires a police record just for a visa application!
I should produce my original documents to increase my chances of getting the visa? I have no problem showing my original documents, but not under the circumstances dictated by point number 4! Processing takes two weeks! What the hell? I must wait all of two weeks and furthermore it is not processed in Jamaica! I have allow them to send my important documents to Cayman, for them to get "misplaced"? For 2 weeks! And then after all of this plus the visa fee, they might just come up with some corny, invalid reason for me to be granted the visa! Hell no!

My view: If Cayman feels it's in their best interest to impose a visa restrictions for Jamaica, it's their right to do so. However, both the requirements and the application process needs to be revised.

M.I.A.

I know that you may have been saying that I have been Missing In Action for the past few days. I have been under so much pressure lately. I pent the past couple of days trying to play catch up in my Math course. It has been a slow process, considering that I don't know shit! My test was scheduled for yesterday, Wednesday, and I was also supposed to hand in an assignment for the same course. This is to be the course-work grade for the semester. So my classmates and I spent the evenings into the early morning trying to make sense out of all this crap! Well, as luck would have it, some people in the class saw the lecturer and begged him to put off the mid-semester test and assignment to next week, to which he agreed...Oh thank God! At least I now have a week to escape the impending failure that I was faced with. So next week I have the test, the assignment and another assignment for another course (which is already finished, hahah). After that I will have to start focusing my energy into passing the dreaded finals. So I will be M.I.A. at times during the turbulent period, which should last for the next 3 weeks.

On lighter side while trying to de-stress a bit, I decided to browse though The Star's website and I took a peek at the Star Poster Girl for this week, and my, my, my...I was pleasantly surprised. This girl's body certainly eased some of the stress. I have placed it below on this post especially for the benefit of my fellow stressed students like , Scratchie and ShottaM... I don't think this will help Smallislandgirl though, hush babes.

I must admit that black women are the most beautiful of all creation, but out of all the black women, Jamaican women...well, Caribbean women are the most exotic. Who could resists that nice round ass, those curvy hips, beautiful breasts, those thick thighs and that warm West Indian smile? Well, that's another post.

Thanks for the "get-well" wishes, they seem to have worked beacause I'm now up and running, feeling soooo much better.

Elton John Desperate To Become A Housewife

Elton John has expressed his desperation to appear on an episode of the popular TV show Desperate Housewives. It has been reported that the aging singer has been harassing Teri Hatcher to help him get him a part on the TV series. He was quoted as saying, "It's so bitchy and funny! I'd love to do Desperate Housewives."What the f...! So mister Elton what role should we assume you would want to play? An estranged gay housewife form England? Or the gay lover of one of the wives cheating husband?. Can you imagine Elton watching and episode of Desperate Housewives? Yeah I know you don't want to.

It seems he cannot wait to get on the tele, as he is now in the process of making a TV show based on himself. What Does Being successful Mean To You?

Here I am on the night shift struggling to keep awake and slaving away for a grossly menial salary. It's the middle of the month and I have been broke for over 2 weeks now, in fact just after I got paid. So I began to wonder, what does it mean to be successful?

What does it relay mean to be successful? Is is owning the latest luxury car? Being able to buy the latest fashion? Owning a mansion on the hills? Being famous? Having a well paying job? Being rich?

I looked up the meaning of the word successful on the internet. I found three definitions at http://dictionary.reference.com. According to the site successful is defined as:Having a favorable outcome, Having obtained something desired or intended, Having achieved wealth or eminence.

So it seems to be successful is a combination of achieving your set goals, getting the things you want and also being wealthy and being a prominent person. My view of being successful is somewhat similar to this. To me being successful is achieving your personal goals despite various obstacles, attaining the outcome you wanted for your life or for certain aspects of your life, being able to live comfortably...Not necessarily rotten rich. But most of all, being truly happy with your life and the accomplishments you have made thus far. Having a positive outlook on the future and being confident that whatever you do will also be a success. Also, I think you are truly successful if you can share your success with others and help them to be successful.

But, that's just merely the random thoughts of a tired, half-asleep young man. What does being successful mean to you?

Unda Pressha!

I have been a very very bad blogger lately. But I have an excuse, a valid one. I have been so busy in the last couple of days, it's not funny. I had three projects to do and they were due today...I have completed only two! But fortunately my lecturer was gracious enough to grant an extension on the third one. I have now received yet two other assignments due two weeks time, and a test on the day the assignment is due. And oh yes final exams are just around the corner!Whoii di stresss!!!

It's 12:40 am and the reason why I'm up is because I have ran out of clothes so I have to be doing my laundry and I have work at 8:00 am. You know who is going to be in a grunpy mood when he wakes up. I washed my car earlier in the night, I had to, it did look too bad! So that took up all of the eavening I had left after coming home from school.

Normally I would steal a little blogging at work, but since lately work has become such a task. I have been so busy at work, I hardly have time to scratch my head...not saying my head is itching, no mi nuh have lice! Well yuh get the picture.

Dons,Gangs,Kingfish,Protests And Violence- News From Ja.

The past 24 hours hours have been a very eventful period in Jamaica. Let me summarize the events making up the top stories in the news today.

Early Sunday morning a joint police military operation spear-headed by Operation Kingfish shot and killed Donovan 'Bulbie' Bennett, named as Jamaica's most wanted. The leader of the 'Clansman' gang, which has operated out of Spanish Town in St. Catherine, Bulbie was on the police most wanted list for more than 10 years. [read article]

Monday morning gunmen attempted to attack a police station in retaliation for the death of there gang-leader. This attempt was thwarted by the police, however gunmen managed to shoot and injure three policemen in 3 separate incidents. [read article]

Monday afternoon protesting Spanish Town residents blocked several roads and burnt down a police post. [read article] As a result of this the town of Spanish Town was locked down as business places, schools and public transportation had to cease operations for the day. [read article]

Sometime Monday, Commanding Officer for St. Catherine North, Superintendent of Police Kenneth Wade charged that the ruling political party was supporting the very said gang while the opposition is backing a rival gang, the One Order Gang. He also said that the very citizens protesting the killing are also known supporters of the ruling party. [read article]

It seems that Jamaica just keeps getting worse, dons (who are known killers) are killed by the police after years of terrorizing the public, there is senseless violence in retaliation, inner city citizens mount roadblocks and destroy property in riots as a form of protest and the government officials fuel the violent cycle by supporting the dons to get votes. This never ending cycle just keeps going in the restless island called Jamaica.

The JPS Saga

I have been a bad blogger for the past few days. But I have been so busy and I had such an eventful week thus far. I hope you all had a wonderful weekend.

The Ordeal
I went on the road on Tuesday to take care of some business. On my return home I noticed that I had no light. So upset, I called JPS to see if there was any scheduled power failure. But to my surprise there was none. Then I remembered that on the last bill I received, 2 days ago, I saw a balance brought forward. So I decided to call again to check my account status. To my dismay, the recording was saying that I owed the full amount for the previous month. WHAT! I payed that bill 3 days before the due date! What the hell is this recording saying?

Now Mr. Stunner, has now grown upset! How the hell this system telling me that I didn't pay my bill and I have a record that I payed the bill. So I decided to speak to a customer care agent. So I called and selected option 0. Now I think JPS just wanted to throw some fuel on the fire blazing. I was on hold for about half hour. At one point I forgot I was on the phone and actually thought I was just sitting listening to music. When I finally got an agent, home boy is going to tell me they didn't receive any payment for the account and that my light was disconnected. What the rass! How the %$@*(@! yuh mean seh yuh nuh get nuh money and mi light disconnected. I have a %$@&*&! Credit card statement with the payment on it!

Ok. I decided to call NCB. As I used there online services to pay my light bill. Mr. Agent enlightened me that yes the payment was made and it was sent to JPS. So puzzled, I asked him to check the account number. Low and behold, homeboy Stunner, left off the last digit. Shit! I checked and double checked before submitting the account number. Oh well shit happens. Mr NCB was quiet helpful, as he tried to contact their contact person at JPS to rectify the situation. But just my luck, he could not get anyone in that department at JPS. I think JPS a try spite mi!
Anyway he said I should call back JPS and explain what happened and see if they could help, as he was going to log the problem and continue trying. Ok back to JPSCC for more music.

And music it was! Rass I stayed on the phone for another half hour listening to more music, song after song, album after album. Finally I got an agent, So I explained to her the problem. And of course her first response was that there was nothing she could do. So I said there must be something. So she decided to do some checks with her finance department! Now this takes the cake! It so happens that JPS did in fact receive the money. However, because the premises number was incomplete the payment was rejected and hence nothing was credited to my account. But, dutty, tinking, thieving JPS sit down pon mi money! Yes folks they just had my money and disconnected my light. You mean to tell me, you see a payment made and it was rejected for 3 weeks now, you have the complete customer number and hence contact details, and you didn't call the customer much less contact the bank that you received the payment from? You just sit down on the money! JPS is one rass!

So she had it sorted out and the money was credited to the account and they waived the reconnection fee. So Miss Agent said she is going to try and get it reconnected the same evening , however, she thinks it's a good chance the reconnection would not be done until the next day. A deh suh it done. This was 4:00 pm and all 6:00 pm she still can't get anyone to reconnect my light. 8:00 still can't get anyone! I now make it official that JPS is the worst utility company in the Island, no, the world! Yes, folks I had to buy some Happy Ice to keep my stuff from spoiling as I didn't get back my light until sometime Wednesday. Yep, JPS strikes again!

Bring Back The Hangman!

Since the alarming rise in the Island crime and murder rate, the Jamaican public has been demanding the resumption of hanging. Many in the Jamaican public see the resumption of this form of capital punishment as one of the main ways to curb the escalating crime rate. The Prime Minister himself has announced in his latest address to the nation that his administration is considering pursuing the resumption of hanging. The leader of the opposition has also expressed his support for this form of punishment. So with all this support, why is it that the convicted criminals are not being punished for their crime?

Well, who are the ones against it? The Human Rights organizations are one of the most vocal group of people against this form of punishment. The other anti-hanging supporter is the UK and the EU. The the British Member of the European Parliament, on her visit to Jamaica said, "It's a fundamental issue for the European Union. It's a written-in commitment that no member state of the union will have the death penalty". In other words she is saying that no country that is begging (especially Jamaica) from the UK and the EU will be allowed to resume hanging even if they have the highest murder rate. The crime situation in this country has become a malignant tumor, that is crippling the country and driving fear in it's residents. Since the sharp increase in our crime rate the investor confidence in this country has plummeted and the tourist arrival ia also on the decline. These criminals have now even turned to not only raping and murdering women, but also young teenage girls and worst nine and eight year olds! I just read an article in the Sunday Gleaner about three women who were abducted from a bar, raped then beaten, shot and thrown into a sewage main. The crime situation is this country has gotten out of hand and all the attempts the government have made, have failed. This is now one of the last resorts and some external foggies who don't have to deal with the enormous crime rate are saying we should not implement a measure to combat it.

Why should we keep these criminals running on the loose terrorizing and murdering us and those convicted in jail getting fat from our hard earned money? Murderers should pay. Some may argue that innocent persons may pay the ultimate price. However, there are persons on death row who without a shadow of a doubt committed violent crimes and should be made to pay. Dem fi hang! Di damn murderers fi hang. These criminals have nothing to fear. They know that they have a good chance of not getting caught and even if they get caught they will just go to jail and still enjoy life. And ever so often some of these murderers escape from jail only to prey upon innocent people.

This alarming crime situation and these senseless, wanton murder needs to be curtailed. I'm not saying that hanging is the answer, but it can be a deterrent. And in a situation like this, it's worth trying. What do you think?

The Sun At Last!

After suffering from the onslaught of rain over the past week it was a welcomed relief when I looked in the sky yesterday morning. I could not believe my eyes when I saw the sun peeping out, like shy excited child, from behind a thin veil of cloud. I had to run outside and feel the warm rays penetrate my skin. I couldn't tell when last it felt so good to be standing in the sun. Today seems overcast in the city, but hopefully later on in the day we will be blessed with some brilliant sunshine.

Anyway, I'm leaving you with a short post today. It has been a long night at work...As usual. My mind is mighty cloudy right about now, can't wait to hit the sack. Record Breaking Season!

Hurricane Wilma has certainly amazed everyone, even the people on The Weather Channel. It has broken and set quite a few records in the past couple of days. After peaking at a 175 mph category 5 hurricane it has now loosed a bit of steam and is now a very strong category 4 hurricane. Wilma has become the most intense hurricane on record in the Atlantic Basin and had the lowest pressure (882 mb) ever recorded for a hurricane. Jamaica has been drenched with days of continuous rain but Wilma has now turned her attention to the Cayman Islands, Cuba, and South Mexico, and as the weather people expects, it's eyeing Florida. The rains have eased up here in Jamaica, but we won't be getting a real break until Friday.

This season has definitely been an extremely active one with 21 Hurricanes battering the Atlantic Basin. Due to the record number of hurricanes this season, all the letters used to name the hurricanes have been used up. As a result, meteorological will now resort to using the Greek alphabet to name any new tropical storm or hurricane. Here is a list of all the hurricane that have made up the onslaught on the region: Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Dennis, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irene, Jose, Katrina, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rita, Stan, Tammy, Vince and Wilma.

Record numbers of powerful hurricanes, massive earthquakes, tsunami and re-emerging diseases. All these disasters, this earth is certainly becoming more and more hostile. Leaves us to wonder what the earth will throw at us next and for us in the tropics, what the rest of this season and worse the what the next hurricane season will be like! More Rain in Jamrock


More rain in Jamaica as Tropical Storm Wilma (formerly known as Tropical Depression Number 24) continues to poor tonnes of rain on the island. There has been widespread flooding across the island. You can click here and here for the news reports. I took this picture while I was on my was home from work yesterday morning. This rails of this bridge as you can see has been busted by the heavy water that passed over the it. It is now 03:15 am and finally the rain has cooled off...guess not! Hopefully the sun will come out soon.

The Pakistan Earthquake

Someone in blogland, can't remember who (yep, another case of bad memory), made a point that no one has blogged about the devastation caused by the earthquake in Pakistan. Well here is the latest grim news. It is estimated that some 3.3 million (yes 3300000) people have been left homeless, 60,000 people homeless and some 36,000 estimated dead. Search and rescue efforts still continue and international aid continues to poor in (such are the $113 million dollars donated by Saudi Arabia). However it is difficult to reach many of the affected areas due to the extensive damage caused to the road network and other infrastructure. You can go here for more info. This disaster makes Katrina a walk in the park. However, why I think everyone was talking about Katrina is due to the closeness of the area to us and the circumstances surrounding the evacuation of the residents and also the extremely slow response of the mighty US government before, during and after the hurricane. The southern area of Asia seems to get so many disasters of immense magnitude, the tsami still fresh in our minds, monsoon floods and now this earthquake! My sympathies goes out to those affected.

More Rain! Jamaica Under Water

Yes folks the rain continues here in Jamaica, as Tropical Depression Number 24 lingers over the island. The meteorologists are expecting the system to strengthen to a Tropical Storm sometime tonight or later on in the day. There have been reports of flooding and roads being impassable in several areas across the island. The rain has been falling almost continuously for the past week. I don't even remember what that thing looks like...What's its name again...It's at the tip of my tongue, oh yes I remember now, the sun!

I took these pictures while driving home from work Saturday (one of the few day duties that I'm working this month, back on the night shift again), along Trafalgar Road and the intersection of Trafalgar and Waterloo Road. While driving I began to wonder: weh the hell suh much water a do pon a major ratid road? This is a major thoroughfare in the most developed part of Kingston, Jamaica even, and the road is flooded like this! Then it occurred to me, no proper drain is along the roadway, not even one! That is why the water just gallop along the roadway. These damn jackasses that built the roads in this country need to be strung up an beaten to a pulp. Oh not just them, but the NWA, the city planners and the idiot government of this country. All of them are to be blamed for the suffering that motorists have to face every time a little rain falls. And it's for this reason why they are so many potholes, no craters in the roads.

Well, it seems the depression is depressing a lot of people this weekend, as there were a lot of activities advertised for this long weekend. It seems the rain has quiet a different plan for all of us in Jamrock for this weekend. Whatever you are doing, I hope you still enjoy the rest of your long weekend (even if yuh nuh deh a yard), as for me I going to sleep every chance I get as the pitter patter of the rain makes the bed oh so more comfy!

Jamaica’s Fashion Confusion – “Men In Pink Tights”

There has been a new, disturbing phenomenon that has been growing among the young Jamaican men these days. I have been so very upset about it, but I have not vocalized my opinions as yet. However, as I was browsing through The Star yesterday evening, I was encouraged to likk out against di nastiness by the article that I read. You can read the article here it’s very interesting.

Once upon a time it seemed that women were being liberated and taking on jobs and sports that were male dominated and were celebrating how the tables have turned. Well, sorry ladies, the tables have turned once again! Of lately, it seems the young men in Jamaica have started to invade the female world! What am I talking about?

If you look at one in every 5 Jamaican man at a dance, in a club, or on the street you will know what I’m talking about. It’s the dyamn disgusting way they are dressed. The tight-fitting clothes, I don’t mean close fitting, I mead the tight, no air can pass through, body sucking, jeans and pants that these youths are wearing. Some men have resorted to start buying women’s hipsters jeans and body blouses (no not muscle shirts)! Oh no, that’s not the all. To top it off, these deviants choice of colours: baby blue, bright orange, bright red, yello, turquoise and worst of all pink! Yes you can see young men at these dances in pink and white tight shirts, extremely tight pink jeans and pink or white shoes to match!

It has gotten so bad that even the poor Jamaican women are now having a hard time finding stretch jeans and hipsters when they go shopping! They have to be in a race to get these rare female clothes, as these young men are hogging them up like hot bread.

I remember the days when we used to cuss the women dem weh bleach out dem face! But now these confused young men have started to take that over too. The bleaching, the shaved eyebrows and the textured hair, yes all of that!

What I can’t understand is how such a homophobic society like Jamaica would embrace such cross-dressing! If you ask any of these young men about homosexuality you will hear, “bun batty man”, “batty bwoy fi dead”. However, these same “anti-gay” men have embraced an established dress code of gay men. What is this country coming to! As far as mi si it, dem yute yah confused.

MI Key To Ra..!!!

Ok, so I made it home, after surviving the flood earlier in the evening. Feeling exhausted after the whole flood and traffic ordeal. So I parked my flood ravaged car and headed to the comforts of my apartment. Sleep was on my mind, but it was far from my agenda, even though I had work later in the night. I had a couple of assignments to do, well at least start. So I anxiously dashed to out of the car, trough the security door and presses the elevator button. So I’m at the elevator door and that’s where it happened
Backtrack: Let me give you a little history of this elevator. This elevator has malfunctioning door. At times it starts to open and as you are about to enter this damn elevator door maliciously start closing while you are going through it. An it nuh lock slow! So when this happens usually you would have to stop it from crushing you with your hand, by pushing back on the middle panel of the door. As a precaution I normally hold on to the button to ensure it stays open, but this particular evening I didn’t because it has been behaving itself.
So as I was entering the elevator, this damn door decides to close on me with murder in its eyes! So mi natural reaction was to stop it with my hand, my right hand, and the hand with the keys in it! Before I could register it the damn door boxed the key out of my hand! An as if it was in slow motion I saw the bunch of keys falling to the ground, falling in between the elevator and the walls of the shaft, down to the bottom of the shaft! Everything happening within a split second, “Mi keys to Ra$$! @%&*#%!* keys dem drop down the shaft, dutty ^%@#()*&#*! elevator.” You get the idea.
I was so pissed. What am I going to do? How was I to get in? The only person with a spare is off the island! Anyway I pulled myself together and went to the front gate and told the security of my misfortune. But alas, Mr. Security says, not to worry, he can help me get them back! “Whew”, I said in my mind. “But you will have to wait until di other security dem reach” he said. Being so happy about the possibility of getting back my keys and actually getting inside my apartment and getting some food (cause by now hungry a kill mi!) I said ok. So I told him I would be chillin' in my car until he is ready.
ZZZZZZZZ”...sleep till mi wake up and all now no security. With the hunger pains in my tummy things started to look hopeless again. Finally he came and said he was ready. Salvation at last! So we went in through the security door and Mr. Security enlightened me that he would get the two elevator keys (one the stop the elevator and prevent anyone from using it and the other to open the elevator door) and I would have to jump down the shaft and get them! Ratid, mi haffi go in de go get the keys, mi inna di shaft! But I really wanted my keys, so what could I do? I agreed. So I was home free now right? Right? Hell No!!!
Mr. Security says, “Mi cyan find the key fi stop the elevator.” What? What the Ra..! How the hell mi a go get mi key? The solution. “I will send the elevator to the top floor an open the elevator door and yuh jump down an get they keys”, he said. Do what? Jump in the shaft with my flashlight with the possibility of someone using it while, poor me, down there in the elevator shaft! Madness!!! A dead him want mi fi dead? “Dear Heavenly Father…” I said in my prayer and jumped down the shaft like a sheep to the slaughter. I’ve never jumped down somewhere, grabbed something and climbed a ladder so quick in my life! I was like the flash, of some “Jamaican petty thief”.
Finally, my keys were rescued, I could do my assignments and yes nyam some food! Told Mr. Security thanks and headed into the wicked elevator. Oh yeh, mi mek sure mi hold down pon di button this time.

Rainy, Rainy Afternoon - The Kingston Deluge

The First Taste


Yesterday started out overcast with intermittent scorching sunshine, just as his been for the past couple of weeks. But this was just a decoy from what was about to happen later on in the afternoon! As the afternoon drew near at about 3 or 4 pm the dark ominous clouds appeared and covered the unsuspecting city of Kingston. Then it struck without the usual one-two prelude drops, no it came down with a sudden vengeance. By the time I headed out of school at about 5:45 pm the ground was saturated and there was no one walking with umbrellas. No, the frail umbrellas could not withstand the downpour. As you can see from the picture above the rain was taking control. But this was not the worst of it at all!

Things Get Worst!


By the time I turned of Old Hope Road and headed into Hope Pastures (have to avoid the traffic) I was startled by the river that was flowing along the road way. Trust mi a riva did deh pon di road! Some serious water. Note in the picture above, you are not looking at the surface of the road but at a body of water of about 1 foot! My driving was reduced to a crawl, I'm sure I saw a snail doing the back-stroke pass me and the other cars. Believe it or not the water on the road got even worst as I continued along my route.

Deeper Waters

The water galloped along the road like an unrestrained wild horse! As I battled with the mighty force of the water, I must admit that at times my heart accelerated a bit. The water got so deep at one point that the car felt like it began to float and the water started to splash up on the bonnet of the car! No I didn't get any photos of that, as I had to have all my mental faculties in tact. Fortunately, the driver ahead of me didn't stop or stall or I would have been in some deep sh.., I mean waters.

Finally, after sailing...I mean driving through the flood waters on the road and then the huge traffic pile up (cause yuh done know seh when town people si rain dem head straight fi di road). Trust me the traffic along Barbican River...Sorry, I meant to say Barbican Road was nasty. I finally arrived home dry and safely. One good thing came out of all of this is dat mi nuh haffi wash mi car yet!

Wake Up And Smell The Coffee!

Here I am on the night shift trying to stay awake. So I decided to take some time to introduce you to my daily and nightly drink, Coffee. Yes 100% pure Jamaican coffee. The best coffee in the world I may add.

I must admit that I love coffee, I will drink coffee in the morning, in the afternoon and even at nights. But for the most part though I only drink one cup of coffee a day...if I don't smell it brewing! (NO! I'm not addicted!)

Serious Times by the upcoming reggae artiste Gyptian seems to be on everyone's tongue and getting some serious airplay. This is one of the latest in conscious tunes that have been making their way to Jamaican radio. His song has put him up within the ranks of other cultural artiste such as I-Wayne, Jah Cure and Fantan Mojah, who have been having a great deal of success on the Jamaican scene and has also been performing internationally.

This song, to me, sums up how thing are right now in the world and also on a smaller and more direct scale in Jamaica. Things are really getting terrible in this country! It's like the wild wild west here in Jamaica. Gun men are killing people left right and centre. Last week gunmen went into a school and shot two students in separate incidents and also at another school gunmen went in and took out a 13 year old girl and raped her. As if that isn't bad enough we have to contend with weekly increases in living expenses. Trust mi times really serious yah now! This song is like a reality check and spurs us to think about how serious things are.
