Bloggers Linkup 2006

Wednesday night at La Cabana was the spot, under the unique design of the thatch roof was the place to be if you are a blogger. Another great night of meeting and greeting the people who share a bit of their lives with us on their blogs. It was the second blogger link up here in Jamaica.

By the time I got there I could see quit a few persons hanging out by the bar sipping on some "juice" and chatting away. There were quiet a few faces that were present at the first link up like Mad Bull, Dr. D and Scratchie and some new faces, Leon and Francis. And oh my God! Females! Yes, unlike the last linkup when we were hopelessly abandoned by the female bloggers, we had been graced with the presence of females! I finally got to meet the wonderful blogger from St. Vincent, Abeni a.k.a. Kami and her Aunt as well as other half of the Mad Bull, Nattie. The entourage didn't end there as later in the night we were joined by another female, Gela, who is quiet new to the blog world and later by Owen and the man who claimed to be "fashionably late", Shatta Mark.

The link up was great as usual, chatting and getting acquainted over some BBQ wings, BBQ wings, Fritters, Potato Wedges and washing all that down with a drink or two of choice. I am a bit disappointed with the other female bloggers who said they would be there, I won't call any names, you know yourselves! But It was a great linkup and maybe next time it will be bigger, yes even as big as Mad Bull's vision of a whole weekend at some resort!

Ochie Run Part I - Dunn's River (The Falls of Death!)

Well the Ochie run wasn't too bad at all. We left Kingston at about some minutes after 7 in the evening and took the log drive down to Ochie. Well Ochie isn't all that far from Kingston but the winding, bad roads make the journey seem like forever! Didn't do much that night just grabbed some food from a Jerk centre at the entrance of the town. The Jerk wasn't too bad at all. We stayed at a little hotel named Rooms on the Beach. It's not an all inclusive hotel, but it was decent. Nice rooms and a wonderful beach.

Saturday it was off to Dunn's River Falls and the beginning of the adventures of Stunner. I enjoyed a swim in the wonderful blue Caribbean Sea and then it was time to tackle the falls. I climbed the falls pretty well and quickly until I reached the slippery rocks. At this part of the falls the rocks are covered with a thin film of a brown coloured algae, which is extremely slippery. So with this in mind I had to take care an watched were I placed my feet to avoid slipping and slide down the falls. All this went well...Until "oh shit", I anchored one of my feet in a groove that was covered with the slippery algae and there I was in a split second grasping and clawing in a effort to stop myself from sliding down the falls! !%$@$#*$! I can't get a grip! I can't get a grip! I'm sliding done the falls on my belly, I can't stop! "Lawd mi dead yah now!" Oh shit I'm still sliding, I'm now on my back and the edge of a rock is only a few feet from my feet and I'm sliding fast! That's it Stunner dead yah now to rass!!!! "Oh God thank you!" a hand grabs me around the wrist, I've stopped moving, my heart is still beating and the edge of the rock is still a couple of feet away. That was close, shit, I was so shocked, not scared at all, I didn't even had time to be scared, it all happened too quickly! After regaining my composure, the guy that grabbed my hand and saved me from certain death negotiated for about 5 minutes how to survive that part of the falls. We completed the falls successfully after that and Stunner conquered the falls! But that was really a close call, I slid for about six feet, the guy who saved me was actually one of the persons on the trip with us an we were all climbing the falls together, good thing he was a few feet behind me. At the top of the falls we had a good laugh, at me expense.

A bit of bad news, although I survived my ordeal, my camera didn't make it back alive. No it didn't fall down the falls or got soaked while I was sliding. It actually fell later that evening while I was taking a picture in the wonderful sunset. The cord that I used as a security from falling actually gave way and sent my camera diving to it's death in the salt water. Don't despair, I should be getting a new one soon, more advanced and better for taking the shot's I want. I'll introduce it to you when I get it. It will set me back a couple of dollars well, but I just can't do without a camera. Enjoy one of the last moments of my camera below.

Oh no the adventure doesn't end there, stay tuned for Part II. Remember tomorrow is Blogger's link up here in Jamaica, suh if yuh deh yah, mek sure yuh deh deh! You can got to Mad Bull's Blog for the details if you don't already know.

Darkness!!!

Wow, it has been a while since I last "put fingers to keys" on my blog! No Dr. D, Quiznos didn't get to me. I have been so busy the past couple of days, so I didn't have time to visit blog-world. But now that I'm back, let me dive in!

You must have been wondering what the subject of this post is all about. Well if you live in Jamaica or was in Jamaica Saturday night then you would definitely know what I was talking about. The entire island of Jamaica, all fourteen parishes, from the rural country communities to the capital city, the white sand beaches to the mountain tops, was plunged into total darkness! Yes the nation came to a standstill from about 4:30 pm until near midnight when the power slowly began to return one region at a time. I guess the sole provider of electricity to the general public, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS), has a lot of explaining to do. The government has already asked for a report on the island-wide failure, which is to be ready by Monday. I just find it very suspicious that the parent company, Mirant, which owns the majority of the company just a couple of days ago announced that they are pulling out and is planning to sell all its 80 % shares in the JPS and only a few days later Jamaica experiences an all-island power failure! It could be just a coincidence, but I just can't shake my suspicion, because just a few days after Mirant's announcement the government sought to reassure the nation that Mirant could not just pack up and move out! I wonder what they are up to? Could this have been all planned?

Well while most persons were home bored...Or otherwise finding ways to entertain themselves ;) Poor Stunner was at work unda severe pressure! Yes, being a worker at a prominent Telecommunications company, an thus relies on electricity, JPS certainly transformed a quiet evening at work into a nightmare! I was so happy to go home when my shift was over. Fortunately the power was back in my vicinity of Kingston by the time I left for home. I know the contact centre at JPS had more than their hands full! Will Jamaica be plunged in darkness once again? Only time and JPS will tell.
